THE STUBBY project / R.I.P . . . . . . . . . . .

truck is still sitting in parking spot. :doah:

just got cleared mid last month to go back to work and try and get back in my life best i can.

at this point i am doing little things here and there to get a feel for my new limitations in my neck. slow and steady to not hurt my self as its been about 7 months since surgery in my neck.

would love to finish it asap but need job first and money next.

trust me havent forgoten this build at all. think of it all the time. but at this point its winter and i got my plow truck out last month and ready to go and been tweeking on it to use and make cash with if we ever get snow.:dunno::popcorn:

I see, well good deal on gettin cleared. Is everything feelin any better??

Will you be able to handle all the neck turning involved in plowing?

doin great now with all the .5" of snow we have had this season . :haha:

driving is fine other than tiny loss of turning range for checking blind spots.

dr. did clear me 100% but as i have said i am taking it slow and steady for safty on learning my limits.

jus a update : some asked recently if i got rid of this project.

no i havent . and yes it will get done.

month or so ago i found a burban part out listing on craigslist local . went and got the doors off it for STUBBY 75 a door rust free cant beat that in my area .

also few weeks ago went 1/2 on a parts blazer with a friend for the warn 8274 winch . should fit just fine in the front of STUBBY . scored the winch and bumper for 300 bucks . even loaded with winch rope and aluminum fairlead. 300 alone for just that new. and got the 35" tires/wheels off it also . trying to sell them to make the winch free or pay me . :thumb:

slow but steady thi will be done .

Hey man! Great score! Good to see things are still going on! Hope all is well with you! ttyl

well the story goes . . . . . .

after wheels/tires stolen I got bumbed out and the project stalled .

then life change and moved out of state .

then blown out disk in my neck and had to move back to home.

then new job and new project ( 2wd build )

and then found out job I was at was a bad place to be for lots of reasons so I left there.

but now with this http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316892 I plan on getting this old girl back on track this year .

I have to much in parts to even think of parting this rig out at this point unless i just use parts of it in my other trucks only or I would loose way to much money . so I figure get it done .

i think i got my shackle angle good in the back what do you guy's think ?

Did you use spring hangers from the front mount of rear springs and reuse your stock shackles? About how much lift did this give you with the higher position when moved forward on the frame? I am looking to shorten my crew's wheelbase in the same manner but, I want to keep stock height. (since I can't afford to lift it right now) Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

stock 2wd short front hangers from 1ton frame .

diy4x shackles udsr style in the 7" long if I recall.

as for lift just moving the hanger forward up the frame prob good 3" or so .

but the whole setup is on 4"lift 56" springs .

also I installed the springs backwards to let me shove the front hanger farther forward on the frame to keep the back real short .

Thanks for the info! Looks like I am going to have my work cut out for me trying to keep it stock height. I'll probably be able to lose a little bit of lift by taking out a couple leaves from the spring pack so, that will help some! (the whole pack of stock rear leaves would be brutal on the trail, I'd imagine) I am shooting for a rear overhang akin to a Blazer and just enough wheelbase to have a bit of bed material between the wheelwell openings and the end of the bed at the front.

try and find 2wd hangers for the front position there 3" shorter .

and as for rear leafs try and find light duty 3/4 ton 56" there 2600lbs a pack over the 3500-3600 lbs in a 1 ton . 22-547 is the spring code any spring shop will know them buy if you go new .

my back of cab to tip of frame is 4ft 6" . planed for 3" gap front / rear and 4ft bed . wheel base as it sits now 133" stock std cab long bed 131.5" stock crew cab long bed 165"

Thanks for the heads up on the hangers! That sounds like the way to go for mine! Also, thanks for the spring code, that's a big help! Hopefully I can find some of those springs, thier ratings sound about perfect given that I am planning to run a bed cage, dual tanks, and eventually a rear winch. That sounds like a better route than my plan of removing leaves from the stock pack! Your dimensions for the frame and bed are pretty close to spot on what I have planned, awesome! I think my target is a 4'6" bed, a stock size gap between bed and cab, and probably a 135" wheelbase. Are you going to chop the stock bed or build a tube bed? I am planning to hopefully butcher the stock bed into something that looks cool. (I say hopefully since this will be my first real venture into body/sheetmetal work)

what kind of dual tanks you plan on ?

stockers wont fit if you move the springs like I did . unless you custom hang them under the cab lower to clear the floor pan .

I am going for a 31 gal blazer tank my self if I cant make the 40 gal van tank fit easy I have already .

as for bed I have a reg old mass produced flatbed that I will cut down to the size I need . as its a bit chunky now and needs rework anyway .
