The "under destruction builds" supersize75k5 's driveway of despair and repair

:( I really hate myself .

Front end on the new duramax is trashed, a arm bushings, ball joints, cv boots, and it goes on.

So what to do? Try to toss on all the Cognito goodies and a couple grand or solid axle time?

I really didn't think I would be back to this so quickly.:doah:

Well you had a good run. Probably best of you just get the d60 under there. If you keep the abuse level the same as you have this long, the 60 should last quite a while before needing a major overhaul again.

Id do the d60 with radius arms, Id hate to spend all that money on the Congnito stuff and it only last a couple months.

I just have to decide between radius arms or leafs. Really tempted to go Cognito though. Arr

How about stepping out of the box a bit and going with a custom lower arm, coilover and possibly a custom upper arm. Widen it out a bit and install some better CV shafts.

You know custom IFS. I think the downfall of the Gm torsion bar system is the torsion bar. I would guess someone has this kit already done.

Better knuckles are going to have better balljoints too.

I have had good luck with the cognito stuff but I'm smart enough to keep the tow rig tires touch ground at all times:thumb:

The double downfall of anything really custom is I sold my other trucks, and I can't drive the big white turd on 44's.

Anyone have invite on this? I figure A arms, uniball or bolt in ball joint. Icon vs fabtech vs Cognito ?

I've heard fabtech has nice upgraded tie rods

And Cognito is the go to for the pitman and idler arm support

I figure if I went custom I would at least do a solid axle just for the straight forward aspect of it, the swap damn near is a walk in the park now with little to no brain power needed. There would be a learning curve on high end ifs.

Off to search Craigslist, if I do a solid axle sadly I'll be looking to pick up a little run around or something for a couple weeks too.

I have the Cognito leveling kit on my '07 Dmax with the pitman and idler arm supports, tie rod sleeves,1500 levers and 5100 bilstien shocks. It is a really nice set up and it does ride good. The only problem I have is the moog upper ball joints that are supposed to be better then factory have worn out several times. When I called them about they said we don't have any problems with that happening. I call BULLSH*T on that. Good thing is they have a life time warranty, just sucks that I have had to replace them a couple of times.

Shawn, you know my vote...lol. Radius arms and coils...:waytogo:.

I do like the cognito stuff but for some unknown reason i think you will wear that stuff out too:D. But the leafs are more simple and are a cheaper route. You did do both setups before, which one did you like to beat on better i mean drive better...

I got less than stellar life out of my first set as well, but I kinda forgot they had grease zirks for a while:rolleyes:

I found they are a 98 2500 Gm truck ball joint, I think that's correct. Also mounting them on top or underneath the arm changes how they sit in relation to everything. You might try the other side of the arm if they go out again.

Like I said I have the full Cognito stuff on my 05' and for what it is and what the truck is "supposed" to do I like it.

This "kit" does what I was talking about pretty well from what I can tell.

Thanks for the feedback :thumb:

If I could come up with the money I would really like to make my own upper and lower A arms, knuckles etc. I would build them to make the track width a few inches wider, new polished CV's and shafts, Single 2.5" King Coil over. Then tune the steering in well and have fun with it.

IMO the GM IFS is good for a factory truck but the torsion bars put too much stress on the lower arm in a bad way. Then the stress carries through from there.

I don't know if the cognito stuff will be Shawn proof, I like to think it will try to be but it may fall short. Then again you have the knack of being able to break an anvil in a padded room

Id love to go full custom but I just don't have the time. I have been staring at that long arm kits though.:pimp:

Right now I bought a l title Sami to play with so I'm distracted. Now I remember how much fun 31's can be!
