The "under destruction builds" supersize75k5 's driveway of despair and repair

Looks like it's going to be a busy weekend..

Seats came in, mounting is going to be fun, I may want them to tilt forward to maximize storage.

Rather than use standard corbaue seats, I chose to order the RXP they sell for the Yamaha side by side. It is a couple inches shorter under the legs, and in a flat flender.. That's a mile more of room. I got the head rest covers too to use the remote headrest pads that come on the razor. Hopefully eBay or a local race shop yields a set of I want them.

For seat belts.. For now I decided on eBay military h1 hummer 3 point retracting seats with the brake ball things. I wanted simplistic seat belts. I very well might go to 4 points but with my intended use I don't want to. I fought myself on this alot but that's the choice I made, originally was only going to have a lap belt for a vintage feel but I decided I like my face.

Made up a wiring diagram and got the material in. Using a combination of 14 to 18 Guage GXL made in the USA wire from wire barn. Ordered a pack with 10 colors in 25 foot leagnths

In addition to these 10 wires I am using some wire with tracer colors, and prewiring some future needs or wants like the electric lockers, trans fan and radiator fan wiring and such for the next drive train.

Fused 12 volt constant power is being handled with a blue sea custom piece with a cover that can organize and sort both power and if needed grounds.

Radio is a 4 channel amp to a switch for "on" music is controlled via blue tooth from a Millinia booth tooth modual that plugs into the amp rca.

Rear wiring and lights are going to use trailer wiring colors so I can use an inline 4 blade trailer plug with a male and female. This will allow me to plug in a harness at the grill to hook up to my truck for flat towing should I want to. "or if I break down and need a flat bar tow.."

Lastly the carb..

The stock Hitachi carb had a mess of wiring and soilinoids and a mile of vacuum lines. When they work they are seek me but I don't like the idea of a 700.00 complicated carb ruining my day down the line. My option was a Webber at 300 bucks, while powerful they are a headache on angles offroad.

My search lead me to a 71 to 74 Corolla carb for a 1.6 liter. It bolted on, was half the cost of a Webber and people seem to say they kick ass offroad... Winning! I may turn it around to help with the fuel bowl and climbing too. The neat part is with a small home made spacer I can even use the stock air cleaner. Should seriously clean up the engine bay. Fuel injection would have been ideal but it doesn't fit my time line to get this done and I don't intend to keep this motor anyways.

'm afraid of the dark so I'd say they would be good but overkill compared to most.

Been making more progress,

With the deadline for Moab approaching some good friends of mine offered to throw me a wrench day.:smokin:

We were able to get the yota axle tore down and fully rebuilt, set up the steering and drill out one of the knuckles ..sadly we were eating 5/8 bits for breakfast so I'll have to to complete that.

Also got new brakes on, rear hard lines, few gussets and welds done, clutch cable,

Next up :

-power steering pump, brackets and resi
-rear shocks and mounts
-rebuild rear cv and have shortened
-weld pedals for throw
-cut transfer tunnel for shifters
-brake softlines
-secure front body panels
-make a battery mount

Nice, I didn't know you were going links with air shocks on this rig.

Good progress for the day, Brent, his trusty steed the bender and I got the cage busted out.

Still need to tie it in on the back as I'm replacing the top of the rear fenders first.

Ended up quite a bit taller than I wanted but function over form won that battle. I have 3 inches or less above my noggin. Ideally I wanted it flush with the top of the windshield but it is what it is. I need to do gussets and a few more support tubes as well.

Used about 60 feet of 1.75 dom in 120 wall.

More pics and details later, I'm whooped

I made a bad call on the cage.. Wound up cutting it up the same night after we made it and lowered it 3 inches. Made a big difference in appeal.

How tall are you? Been looking at a 47 flat tie on CL that's been sitting around a while up north and am curious if at 6'4 I even have a chance at fitting before I drive up there.

So much going on I don't even know where to start

Cliff notes..

Samurai jeep willys Toyota thing..

Made a huge push to get it done for Moab and had issue with it the day before I left with my yota carb conversion. The morning I was to leave I had not even driven it yet and I missed my exhaust appointment. At noon I decided to throw in the towel rather than take a risk of a ruined trip filled with issues.

Called up Andrew at letzroll, and he offered up the green jeep I used in Moab last year. We ended up leaving early grandpa and I had an awesome trip with the ck5 guys again and it was a great trip.

I did break a control arm "I had to break something" .. Limped it into town, repair including part and install was only 50 bucks while I went and had a malt shake :thumb:

Got back from Moab with some motivation..

Bought a ecotec 2.2, harness and some other junk..

20141002_181152_zps2346af41.jpg

Yanked and sold my 1.3

20141001_070011_zpsb0d28eee.jpg

Realized the ecotec swap is some serious work to fit and I am not yet convinced how I want to go about a trans. For crawling a auto is king, but no one has a set up to run a 4l65 behind it with a a computer yet. Also I'm really wanting to do a turbo set up. CBM harness and computer is 2k alone :eek1: but that leaves me choosing a trans and a ton of down time including parts sourcing.

Solution...

Temporary motor while I chase ecotec parts :p

Test drove and bought a 95 tracker 1.6 all aluminum fuel injected 16 valve

Called trail tuff and ordered up a stand alone harness, fuel pump, adaptor kit, clutch, water/oil pumpand such.

Now getting it ready to drop in this weekend and should have the harness next week or so.

With all that going on.. Have manged to break the duramax.. Twice. Went out to recover a broken Ford that wouldn't start due to a bad alarm install and to weld on a new lower control arm on his friends jeep. On my way to the Jeep I bounced the front in 4 low and popped a tie rod apart on a hill.. Backed off and winches it from rolling

IMG_147601610271696_zps99362ae9.jpg

Ended up welding the new control arm on with batteries and 7018 rod, foxed the Ford and swapped out my tie rod end and on we went.
.

Along with all that fun the gf decided she wants a jeep.. We find a tj Rubicon from Justin who went to Moab in 2012 with the az guys..

So far doing lots up upgrades, steering, brake upgrade, lights and junk. She likes it but it's really odd being in the passenger seat.

Lastly..

Got a neat opertunity to go to the baja 1000 again this year but this time as a navigator and co driver. It's the 1900 class and with UTV Inc. Should be a great time and a lot of growth as its a new team but he has amazing resources. Looks like I'll be getting busier :doah:

Got all outfitted up, dust should look great on black

Plan and parts..

5.3/4l60
Air ride
73 to 87 c10 5 lug disk front
Shafts to convert rear, 3.73 and posi
PCI conversion ls harness
Flawless interior, seats ect
Driver or faux patina exterior

Yes I'm crazy.

I'm 6'

Good luck..

I'd plan a tub stretch. I avoided it but would do it if I could not just to save myself some of the work I did.

I moved the seats as far into the rear tires as I could and my cage is about 1.5 to 2 inches above the windshield.

It's doable.. Just work.

When ever I feel overwhelmed or think my plate is full I just come back and get caught up on this thread :haha:

I dont mean to pry but dude where does the fundage come from?! Im driving my self broke with 1 and a half projects lol.

Work hard play hard? The willys is actually a cheaper project "relatively speaking" compared to the buggy so that's very refreshing.

Can't wait to see this thread updated with your future project.

Heck yes ;)

Cool deal on the UTV Inc. co-driving opportunity. I talked to those guys on the phone about a clutch sheave for my Rhino and they were really cool.

Random thought but if you want more power than the 1.6L Tracker motor consider a 120hp 2.0L 4 cyl out of the 99-05 Tracker/Vitaras. Considering that's a 33-50%% boost over the 1.6's it's nothing to sniff at. Love mine.

Oh, and there's a guy on Ebay that makes turbo manifolds for Suzuki engines.

Sure now you speak up :doah:

The 1.6 came about because I literally was able to find one with in minutes of deciding the ecotec was going to be a longer project.

My other motor option that I am considering is the new all aluminum 4.3 v6 and also keeping my eye in the diesel in the chevy crude or the turbo 1.4

This is just a easy get it done thing.

Tossed the engine in, sadly the stick stock tracker manifold was not going to clear the frame so I ordered a header and hopefully it's here by weeks end.

The 16v adaptor from trail tuff made this a breeze. I'm still bummed walking passed the ecotec constantly so hopefully I'm happy with this motor or this will be a lot of work just to yank it right out.

Went and looked at a wrecked diesel Cruz today if anything out of curiosity. The air intake on the rear looks rather problematic.
