The Willomet Charger

A desecration to Mopar nuts everywhere, this is my protouring, LS-powered, 1970 Dodge Charger; built at my shop, Willomet Motor & Fabrication.
I'm also guessing that you'll tweak that number as you keep playing around with your options. :thinking:

I thought Alston would appreciate all my measurements in 1/16” increments. To paraphrase, “go back and round to the nearest 1/4”. And don’t ever put anything metric in a file you send to me.”

I guess my Higgs boson ruler will stay in its drawer for a few months.

I would also have guessed precision was a virtue.
 
Unibody (re)lockdown commences.

Simple enough design. I’m just latching onto the front door mounts, and rear unibody bracing above the rear inner fender.

Had to redraw the whole frame to fit the engine and trans where I wanted it.

The "birdcage" is fully welded, and as soon as I get a confirmation that this drawing works for the tubing bender, I'll begin locking the car to it.

that roll cage needs more triangulation
I'm thinking I'll paint it orange and wrap it in cowhide.

What kind of front suspension will this frame have. Even though I like the look of the 68-70 Dodge Charger more than any other muscle car, I was never crazy about sub-frame cars, and front torsion bar suspension. That is one of the reason I was always a GM guy because their 2-door coups came with full-frames, and coil spring suspension all around like my 1970 Buick GS 455 had.

But yeah, how's the suspension going to be setup. I'd imagine w/ Alston it'd be coil-overs of their spec.

They have several coilover options to choose from, and I haven't even thought about which one will work but they do have general guidance for "heavy LS/light LS". I'd like the super nice remote reservoir shocks, and weigh the car before sorting out the final choice for coils.

Frame rails are inbound from MRC Fab outside Charlotte, NC. Jimmy bent up the 4x2s to my design, and they’re on a pallet headed this way.

The Chassisworks frame wouldn’t accommodate my engine setback, but I still wanted to use his front and rear suspension, so I’m rebuilding the chassis to fit those systems. The Chassisworks front suspension crossmember is in production, and should be here in two weeks.

Meanwhile, the car is on track to return to shell status and be joined to the birdcage. Next up, quarters.
