The Willomet Charger

A desecration to Mopar nuts everywhere, this is my protouring, LS-powered, 1970 Dodge Charger; built at my shop, Willomet Motor & Fabrication.
Seeing you build this car has made me really like a charger, it’s unique body lines are special.

That being said, my favorite car is a 70 chevelle
My desktop background. 1738166250040.pngIt's the dream. Was going to go after one this year for my 40th but the k5 and 4runner have burned me out on old cars for a bit. So maybe when I'm 45.

I know this is a charger thread but come on, cars back in the day were just gorgeous pieces of machinery.

What do you guesstimate the total weight will be of this car once it's completed? Just wanted an idea of how much over it may be compared to a bone stock Charger. I can't fathom it being less since the frame appears to have a lot more material added for more bracing and strength over the factory configuration. Still an awesome build to watch nonetheless.

3500ish. The frame isn’t as much of a hickey as one might guess. It weighs about 200 lbs. Subtract the 440, 727 or 833, add the lightness of carbon and aluminum, and this will weigh just slightly less than this car used to in its RT trim.

Until you put me in it.

Had to cut out the door jam. I wanted to see if I could fit the quarter with the damaged OG one in place, but it’s not lining up right while the passenger quarter is almost a perfect mirror fit to the driver. That’s a relief.

Also, the door has to move forward by 1/4”, and I will probably have to modify the hinges to get that done.

What required the 1/4” move?
Just to match the driver side. I really don’t know why the passenger door sits farther back with the hinge adjustment maxed out, but I’ve become accustomed to modifying anything and everything so that this stuff fits.

This is all to say nothing about making the radius profile of the door match the profile of the quarter.

Is that going to affect the fenders and eventually the core support squareness?

I’m not entirely certain, but I don’t think so. There’s consistent 3/16-1/4” gap at every reference point from the door to the body, so this should actually make the door fit evenly between the quarter and fender.

Went to their site to see what that trans is good for power wise, and it never says .
I think my goal of finding a 5 speed that'll handle 900hp in a 6500# truck and not shift like a dump truck is a tall order. Lol

Only problem with the body panels I see, is they're hiding all the friggin sweet fab work. :thumb:

Just e-mail them and ask. I looked pretty hard at a Tick Performance trans for the Shop Truck, but for my power goals and the weight of the truck along with drag race launches it got expensive very fast so I ended up with a 4L85E from GearStar.

New door jamb, squared the quarters, trimmed and fit the deck panel, and the rear taillight panel is level when fit.

I’ll get the trunk lid and start to see how the rough gaps look. It’s really shocking how well all this stuff fits together.

Got the gutters fit, and the tail panel and quarters roughly fit to the trunk lid.

The way these panels overlap to only partly shed water is comedic. The layering all but guarantees water will find its way into the trunk.

The Speedkore lid fits the same as the originally, but weighs 1/3 of the steel counterpart. 13.2 lbs vs 35.4.

I’m still noodling on how to attach these to the chassis.

The ducktail on the fender looks like it's gonna take some massaging to match up w/ the shape of the cf.
There are little cast aluminum quarter extensions that are supposed to do that. Even still, they often don’t perfectly line up. No doubt I’ll be slicing and adjusting.
