I didn’t see anything that indicated it was beat on either. Some slight scoring on the crank shaft bearings but nothing that my fingernail snagged. One of the cam lobes had a little bit of material that was missing off the top of the lobe so maybe that had something to do with it? Hard telling. You could see on the top of the piston where it had just barely knicked the corner of the valve indentation, but there was no other signs of damage....

Jon mentioned to me yesterday evening that the oil pickup tube was spot welded to the oil pump. I don't think that was ever done at the factory? Possibly someone has been into it before or maybe the shortblock was replaced under warranty or something. We'll probably never know, lol.

I bypassed the oil cooler lines for the sake of getting it done before squarebody nationals at the end of the month, but this winter I’ll take some time and get it all put together......
