things you'd like to salp your truck's previous owner for...

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

The previous owner "forgot" to install the transfer case support. After some mild 4 wheeling out at Pismo and the torque of my BB, I'm left with a broken transfer case adapter and no 4wd. Just one more thing to fix.....

one more thing. stabbing holes in the headliner with a pencil. if it weren't for that, my interior would be PERFECT!

Wired the cigerette lighter backwards and then made a cardboard insulator so it wouldn't short out. This had me very concerend about the wirring of the rest of the truck but I've been through most of it and haven't found any other problems.

Well I own a '90 Jimmy, an '88 and an '87 Blazer. The '90 didn't really have any problems with it other than the previous owner used it as a hunting truck and it had tobacco juice everywhere. The '88 was flooded in a recent hurricane, so I bought it for next to nothing. It had some problems. Other than being totally flooded, the last owner had broken a rear axleshaft and neglected to get all the pieces out, so it wore the ring and pinion out. The front brakes were locked up and the engine had a blown head-gasket. It did, however, supply me with an 8" lift, extended driveshafts, and 4.56's. All of which is now on the '90. The '87, however, I am not so lucky. It has every available factory accessory on it (roofrack, spoiler, bumperettes). It HAD aluminum running boards on it, but those were the first to disappear. The major problem, though, is it had an underhood fire. The last owner had a BRAND NEW ENGINE put in it, but the geniuses who installed it, hooked something up wrong and it caught on fire and melted every last wire on the main wiring harness. On top of that, it cooked the coolant reservoir, fan shroud, air cleaner, and the AC and heat unit. On the bright side, the engine only ran for 10 minutes before it caught on fire, so I have a new 350 waiting for wires. Also, it only has 79,000 miles on it! It will be on the road soon.

Just found this thread, thought I'd try to revive it. Anyways the previous owner of my 87 installed a random toggle switch on the bottom portion of the dash wired it up to something (still have no clue if or what its wired to due to wires disapearing in the rats nest he created). He had placed wood blocks under the drivers seat mounts to raise the seat so he could see. Rewired the cigarette lighter backwards so when I plugged in a cell phone charger it popped the fuse and burnt up the radio. Had so many hot wires underneath the dash just thrown all about that about 2 weeks after I purchased it, one of those "hot" wires wound up getting white hot and fell down on the carpet and started burning. Fortunately for me, I had forgotten something in the truck and was only a few feet away when I went back to retrieve it. As soon as I opened the door I saw the carpet burning and the wire laying right there, managed to grab the wire with a shop rag and rip it out before any real damage was done.

Lol at this thread topic.
I'm mad at the US government for painting my truck. The knuckleheads who did it were definitely the best and brightest. Just not at painting.

Mine is at least solid overall but there have definitely been those WTF moments. So far I've found that the shocks were too short for the lift and the rear lift looks like an add a leaf and maybe an extra leaf of two added on top of that. I found a 1 1/2" x 8" flatbar that was laying in the bottom of the fan shroud, this was after it made contact with the fan and got kicked into the radiator putting a hole in it. The exhaust was an absolute mess, the headers and mufflers were the only thing that were usable. He replaced all the steering components to fix a wandering front end except he didn't replace the really sloppy steering box. And finally there is some added wiring under the hood that needs attention.
