If the vehicle is still moving, then the pump is still working - at least some - or no clutch would ever engage. The fact that it's revving higher is scary, as something must be slipping. I guess it could be the sprag or even the sprag in the converter.
Or is it just stuck in 1st gear?
The simplest pump test is to check fluid level. If it stays high with the engine running, then the pump is pure dead, or the TC isn't bolted on anymore. If the pressure was leaking off enough to let a clutch slip, it would be cooked with very little driving.
Really thinking about moving to California someday.
Its not stuck in any gears, when it happened i was in 3 or 4 gear, was going about 40 mph probably. The fluid was showing full when running.
IT'S NOT WORTH IT... Believe me.

Mine just did the same thing and the plastic worm gear near the output shaft had broken. That caused a chain reaction into the core but would not go into first. Tranny guy ended up bulletproofing the entire thing due to some PO issues. Cost me 1400. But now this thing is great
Good luck!
1400 is out of the question for me, hehe. i budget is more like 300-400 tops!

Keep saving..
Other than that, it's a used option really.
face when you put it all back together only to discover you tore a seal in a clutch pack and it slips. Been there, done that. Just take your time, and do a little research. With a little extra cash, you can get a few upgrades for it, Corvette servos, better clutches, shift kit, maybe a better sunshell, and not sure of the year cutoff, but the later model ones have a much better pump, and I would do that as well. If there is shrapnel in the pan, I would replace the converter too.You can rebuild it yourself if you take the time, and pay close attention with pretty basic tools. Some feeler gauges, basic sockets and blah blah. Pretty sure you dont need a special tool for installing the seals, like the Ford AOD does for example. You just HAVE to be CAREFUL installing the seals and putting them in the case, you will make a realface when you put it all back together only to discover you tore a seal in a clutch pack and it slips. Another easy way to see if the pump is working, pull a cooler line off, if fluid is shooting out, the pump is atleast working.

what do you not like about ca? i need to know! hehe
I moved out of Long Beach CA close to 30 years ago. I'm sure it's even worse now. But even when I was growing up there...
Crime
Smog Laws
Smog
Gangs
Taxes
Gun Control Laws
Traffic!! <--- I'm sure this is 10 times worse now.
Vehicle Registration Cost
Housing Cost
I was thinking of getting a kit from BTO and dropping it off with a local shop but after talking to them I learned that the 700s had multiple upgrade from GM. So instead I let them have free range with mine for the rebuild, GM upgrades and a few of my own.
If you are going to do it make sure you find out what all the upgrades GM made through the years. Good luck
