Yeah I've got the SM465 in my truck and I love it for the granny gear. Mostly I don't even need 4Lo because of it. I have 35s with 4.10s and top end is something I'd like to improve, but I think its the engine being under powered ont the tranny. My 2nd gear syncro is wearing out (1Lo-2-3-4-R) but not a big deal.
Things I would change: fully syncronized 1st and Reverse, overdrive, another gear to have more ratios to pick from (2nd and 3rd are a little far from eachother).

Also anyone know where I can get the correct shifter ball? I'd prefer if it didn't have L for 1st so it would read (1-2-3-4-R)

I have about 50 miles on my truck since I got the 4654 in. So far my only comments are that 2nd seems really short so I am in 3rd gear most of the time. I can still go on the freeway, actually it seems a litlte better that with the TH400. I need to practice driving a little more to smooth my shifting out (it ain't no Honda 4 speed) but otherwise, so far no regrets. I'm going to go whelin this weekend so will have a more educated opinion afterwards...I hope.

Has any one seen this:

STaK will be showing the new Overdrive Monster box at the Offroad Expo in Pamona in Octeber.
The overdrive is the same as the normal Monster box in all respects, except for the new gear ratio.
1:1 - 0.79:1 - 4.33:1
They should be available in November or December.

This may be a way to have a SM465 and overdrive.

or a nv4500 or nv5600 would get you your overdrive too... :wink1:

350tbi, SM465/NP205, 5.13s and 42s. Love it. 4lo, point it the right direction, pop the clutch and hold on. Use to have a TH350/205, kinda miss the lazy one foot action, but now I feel more "involved".

For what it is worth, I went wheeling a little last weekend and have a slightly more informed opinion of the SM465...simply said, I love it and will not go back to automatic unless I absolutely have to. I read a post on here form a guy who said he felt like he was more engaged in the experience...I agree 110%, so much more fun, in my opinion. Might not be for everybody, but I am a happy camper.

Sm 465, 203/205, 5.86's LOVE IT
I wouldnt wheel with anything else. Been wheelin for close to thirty years with nothin but.

never seen a shifter ball that didnt have an L in first

I had one... due to someone else drove my truck years ago (before lift) and they asked me the next day why was my top speed 45mph?.... they used L-1-2 and never put it in 3rd.... so I swapped it to the 1-2-3-4 but now no one else drives my truck..... and if I drive the truck somewhere.. I dont drink and drive it home... so L-1-2-3 back in!!!! :haha:

I just want to ask this,,,,,,,,,on a side note,,,,,,,,

Do you all like that 465 setup so much, you would take a perfectly good th350 203 setup , rip it out, and go through the trouble of doing all the clutch pedals, from auto to man,all the work, etc? Just to have one? I like the idea of the 465, i really want a clutch setup, any day over an auto.

The TH350/NP203 combination is the worst setup. ****ty first gear with all the weaknesses of the 700R4. Cast iron transfer case that approaches 200lbs yet still has a crappy low range (2.01:1) and a chain with an aluminum tailhousing.

If I were to have a hydro 465 then I'd definitely do it. I probably wouldn't do it if it were mechanical. If I had a 700R4/241 I definitely wouldn't do it unless it was hydro.

been there done that... well turbo 400 out....

I did this back in 1992ish... when you looked in the dictionary for internet and it wasnt there... it is that easy to do.. time consuming but easy.....

here was my swap... however I bought a rolling chassis... had to convert a 2wd cab to 4wd and add pedals. 2wd cab has a smaller hump and is a solid piece... 4wd cab has a bolt in so I had to cut the 2wd one out and bolt this one in.....

$500 for a 350/smc465/np205/d44/14bolt and 4.56's STOCK...

had to scan the pics in as digital camera was not even a thought....

where are you located?

I can help you if you are close but think you wont be...

anyhow... 1 day to get cab done.. go with hydraulic setup and it is easy...

basically you pull your tranny.... replace the bellhousing with the clutch fork and all stuff and put your tranny back in..
done...

weekend max

California is a long way from your home bro.:haha: Thanks for offering though man! :D It was just some possible future plans i was cosidering, i was told by some folks it just isnt worth the time, but ive had nothing but problems with autos on all levels, on alot of different vehicles, sorry, ive been way out of the loop for a while. :haha: *hijack off*

Just debating the worth while-ness of the manual swap is all.

i wheeled an auto hard.. turbo 400 with b&m shiftkit... it was nice.. but went to a stick and the control!!!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK

my old 74 blazer had a 4spd / 203 :doah: . I love wheeling with a 4spd . I junked my t350/np203 set up in my burb and put the 465/205 in with a hydro set up . Even with 42" and 4:10 gears  my burb can still crawl pretty good . I'm going to do a doubler soon with my tax refund $ . I do like the 4:10 gears on the freeway ; 1800 rpm @ 55 mph . I get way more axle wrap with the 4 spd so I had to build a anti wrap bar with a custom shackle set up so I could still get some decent flex . All good now . I would never run an auto unless I built a rig Just for the sand .

or one of those machines that flies over the water and up the cliff sides.. think they are lotsa hp machines.....

i wouldnt be able to shift fast enough with 2000hp!!!! :haha:

I just swapped out a TH400/205 for a SM4654/205 less than 2 months ago. I did the whole thing relatively quickly and didn't actually think it was that hard and I am not a good mechanic.

With that said, I am stoked on the 465 with one exception...if you chicken out half way up a knarly hill...well, you better get off the brake and on the gas pretty darn quick. Actually, I think once I rig up some type of hand throttle this will become a non-isue.
