Thrillbilly Build Thread! 89' K5 on 44's, & tons. New motor FINALLY put in!!!

After pretty much a year and a half of doing absolutely nothing except looking at the K5 and talkin' the "one day" stories with my buddies, I finally have been able to start working on THRILLBILLY again!

I pulled the front bumper off to build a winch cradle and put in its place. Does anyone know if Twisted Engineering is still around I really like the looks of their cradle but can't seem to find anything out on them..

Second thing on the list is fixing the frame. I KNOW I KNOW when I put the crossover and D60 in I should have done both braces especially with 44's but the little kid inside of me was saying you don't need it let's go muddin'! well... I have paid for that mistake.

pictures to come soon of the repair work! It's good to be back at it!

Thrillbilly Build Thread! FINALLY some progress, not just yard art!

Glad to see you're back. Too bad about the frame but it comes with the territory so to speak. Why don't you just build your own winch cradle if you know what you want? It would be a whole lot cheaper. I wonder if you could adapt a cradle meant for a Jeep JK. They're plentiful and cheap.

I thought about using one for a jeep. I've seen plenty of good ideas from some members on here too, I just thought their price seemed so cheap for a fully built cradle. The frame was my own fault! :doah:

Twisted engineering is now TNA i believe, same guy just name change

Edit: username on here is TnA

Oh ok thanks! After the frame repair, a disc brake swap on the 14 bolt will be next. The next few months plan is to pull the motor and rebuild it with something a little more peppy to help gain some HP to spin 44's!

Good to be mAking some.progress. I know what its like to be just looking at for.a while and not doing anything. It feels good to get some stuff done

Good to see you back at it! Im in the same boat. Project has been sitting a while. Just getting back into it.

Big block power! Yeah!!!!!!!

I'd love to do a BB chevy if I could ever just find someone around town trying to give one away!

Absolutely! I will say cutting the crossmember out yesterday about killed me! I'ts been a long time since I crawled around in the driveway for hours on end... But you still come back for more!

That's good to hear! you gonna finish wrapping up some other piddly stuff or you got big new plans for that monster?

I'm working on the motor for it right now. Truck just needs motor tranny and d shafts and she'll be Rollin.:thumb: sounds easy enough :haha:

Things have been moving real slow here. Not much has been done after repairing and bracing the frame, only thing I had a chance to do was run at a local mud bog a few months ago. While I was the biggest truck there I was at the bottom of the list when it came to power. It got me thinking about building a motor again, something that I do and always put off cause the truck runs and drives now. But I got a little more serious about it if I wanted to be able to actually compete so I started researching different builds and parts and got an idea of what I wanted with some help from a buddy who builds motors for dirt track racing. I went to the wife to tell her what I was doing and tell her (asked her) to give me the ok to buy some parts to build my first motor. This is what We have gathered up so far:

I've been like a kid on Christmas day! I stand outside waiting on the Brown Santa to drop off my new toys each time I ordered something haha! Tear-down and rebuild soon to follow after the rest of the parts are accumulated!

That intake looks like it could make some power. Why no big block? It doesn't matter. It's your truck so do what you want. Long as it puts a smile on your face. :D

How much time do you spend cleaning your garage? That rug wouldn't last a few days in my shop..lol

Did you think about a GEN III sbc at all?

Martin

Yeah I did and might later down the road. The mud bogs that are around here are setting some "test" rule in place for the class that I would be in requiring the motor to be specific to the year and model of truck. In other words a K5 never came with a 6.0 LS motor so I wouldn't be able to run a GEN III at the moment. Luckily I don't think it will stick , but mudbogs is all this thing will be doing so the older technology doesn't bother me.

My wife gets so pissed that I sweep that floor more than the floors in the house. The rug is only a week or so old so it hasn't had a good break in yet. haha

Why not put a 454 in it?

As much as I would like to... Ha nobody had BBC parts laying around like they do SBC parts here.

That's the plan!
