Hacked fenders make a big difference on making a wheel/tire look smaller so that could be why it looks like more.
Something else to consider…..if you get 35s on 15s and end up wanting to go back to 37s there are very few companies that make 37s for 15s
.... I do really like the look of 15x8 but meh, it's seems more trouble than it's worth this morning. Going with 37' MT seems the easier solution

I tend to agree with you, especially after making an ungodly amount of posts and reading far too many threads. My eyes and mind are so fatigued from reading about tires/wheels/backspacing etc.sticking with 17s to me is the better idea. there are all kinds of JKs and JLs running 37s and you should be able to pick up a set cheap and easy off marketplace.

I really like that Cooper evolution but it doesn't come in 37 only upto 35. For 37 cooper you have go with SST Pro.These are a 315/75R16 on a 16x7 wheel. I could easily clear a 37" tire but I like how I can stuff these all the way and no rubbing anywhere. I need new tires due to age and will most likely got to a 35/12.5R17 depending on what wheels I find when I get to that point.
I run the Cooper Evolution MT on my truck at work which sees mostly highway and I like them for a budget friendly MT. I also run the Firestone Destination MT on lots of my other work trucks and I really love the look of them. I would stay away from Big O tires, I don't like the quality of them at all.
