TJ's tire thread

Nope. Bolt them on and let it run. I'm actually debating the same swap in size just so I can fit in the garage without airing down and to get a little more pep out of it.

Yup, i forgot about that aspect on smaller tires. Added benefit

If I’m reading this right, you can fit 15” wheels on 8 lug axles with some caliper grinding? If that’s the case I’m gonna have some 17x9 steelies and brand new 37” BFG’s for sale. I love small wheels and big tires.

Do you have a Dana 60, or a Dana 44 (GM 10 bolt)?

Either are doable, the Dana 60 takes a lot more work.

Cooper evolutions are $283 a tire cheapest of that size range.

The general grabber looks good as well but $393 a tire.

Not sure why the Coopers are so much cheaper than all the rest
Sometimes it's a marketing thing, they sell them cheap to corner the market on a new product, once people start talking about them they increase the price with the demand.
I bought my first set of procomp xterrain 35x12.5x15 for $700 including wheels and mounting and balancing.
Within a year they were double the price.

After 10-pages of posts I am late to the game on this, but I think 35" tires would look better on your rig than those 37" tires. I have never been a fan of the "fill up every inch of wheel well space" look on lifted trucks. I think leaving a little wheel well space look is better.

The only time I think the fill every inch of wheel well space works is if you are building a serious wheeler that has the minimum amount of lift needed for better center of gravity with the most suspension travel possible for serious rock crawling, and you do not care what it looks like, you just want it to perform to it's best ability.

I think the tread pattern and sidewall appearance will make the biggest difference.

On my Cherokee XJ, I wanted to fit the cheapest, biggest tires I could with my existing lift. I was on 33x12.50 15 BFG KM2s and upsized to 35x12.50s of that same set of Pro Comp A/Ts. I never loved they way they looked. My previous, smaller BFGs looked way better. Plus the larger tires caused other issues for my setup.

You won't regret these 35s, I bet.

I will say 15" wheels would probably be a better look overall however, these look good enough and better than before.

I'm pretty sure Contexk5 has a Dana 60.

Martin

He does. He brought it with him when he bought the Blazer body off me and we installed axles so he could get it on the trailer.

edit @82355 sorry Martin, I went back and was rereading this thread and saw where you were quoting Centexk5, not asking about TJ1978

I used to think that but now having 17" wheels I feel they look pretty good.
And with bigger tires you still have enough sidewall to cushion and protect the wheels

Ah dang. I’d love to run 15’s.
SKYs makes caliper mounts to run 3/4 ton calipers on a D60 front

Here’s a link that shows how much you need to grind….

Torque spec? I have them at 100ft lbs presently.

I'll do the dirt or chalk method for air pressure layer but they are at 35psi for now.

I think they look good, nice beefy tread, not too big and room in the wheel well especially the rear tires.

Thanks for coming along on the journey.
