Trail guns: What do you pack?

I' m in the philly area nothing even close to bear just white tail and freaks in the woods. I carry a glock 29 10 mm 10 rd mag with a 15 rd back up and a s&w 38 snub . but if I was anywhere near bear I'd wan't at least a 44 mag if not a long arm like a 308 or 7mm mag. that ar50 is pretty wicked!

What type of mount were you thinking about? I've been toying with the idea of installing a police type locking mount in my K-5 for my carbine but noy really sure what I'm going to do yet. What ideas do you have?

Dan..

Not sure on the brand or brands, but there are a few companies that make a 2 gun rack that mounts on the headliner area of a truck. The gun slides in like a regular gun rack, and has (more often) a velcro strap that snugs it down. I know cabela's used to have them, I have not bothered to look for them for a while. I'm sure someone still makes 'em.

What heck, may as well post a pic of mine too .. :wink1: These are some homemade grips I cranked out in a couple of hours. I still have the black factory ones, but there just something I like about the mesquite grips. Maybe it's a texas thing... or thang. :p: The color is the natural color, after finish, and the dark is where I ran a propane torch over the edges real quick, before I finished them.

GUNS!??!! Psssshhhhh

Real men use a paul anka CD to make the bear want to kill himself (Be sure to use proper ear protection for this). :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

or the remington wingmaster w/ 8-10 shells of buckshot handy if the bear somehow likes the mellow stuff.

Try the Big Sky Brand racks. I have one in my truck and install them in the PD undercover cars. They are top notch. I do suggest adding a few self tapping screws to the rack extension to keep it from rattling loose if you go offroad much.

Cheaper then dirt sells them for good prices also :D

When I was in AZ and had access to my Dad's guns it was usually at least his Smith & Wesson 686+ 7 shot .357 mag. Now that I am away from my dad's stockpile I can shoose to carry my Browning 9mm, Ruger Super Blackhawk .44mag, and my Remington 870 tactical shotgun, or my 30.06 deer rifle.

My dad did buy me a .357 mag S&W though for Christmas, now I just got to get to AZ to pick it up sometime. :D

I like my old worn fullsized Sringfield 45acp, updated with a beavertail safely, novak sights, rubber Hogue wraparound grip, and

All I have right now (besides for my Mossberg short barrel, 8-shot 12 Gauge) is this Ruger (Model SP101) .357 Mag. I have a permit to carry it concealed. I run 158 grain .357 Mag hollow points in it. It is not enough to kill a bear right away, but it will tear a chunk big enough out of him to make him run the other way instantly.

whoa, i run the same setup :eek1: i got a mossberg 590 5 rounds of 00 buck and then 3 slugs and i dont see many ppl with a sp-101. I gotta pick something up for my wife. I have been using 38's in the 101 for here to shoot, but i think she needs her own.

Man, that thing must cost about $2 a round to shoot. It would probably cost at least $50 every time you took it out to practice with it.

Picked up a trail gun today. Anybody remember Jeff Cooper's Scout Gun concept? Well, my new gun fits the description perfectly. 1917 Eddystone action, 16" Barstow barrel, 38.5" overall length. Its shorter and lighter than the M16A1 I carried for years. Oh yeah, its 30/06 chambered with a 4X Redfield scope. $300 used, hope to shoot it next weekend. I took pics, but my camera and computer are not speaking to each other right now.

I own one of these Maverick (made by Mossberg) Model 88. I should set mine up the same way as yours with a combonation of 00 and slugs.

My SP101 has the spur trigger. Looks like several of us carry the SP101. Nice little carry gun with upgraded grips and packs a nice punch. Didn't see anyone else but me with the GP100 though, and it's my favorite out of quite a few differnt hand guns I've owned over the years...

I have the GP100 and love it. I had the rear sight blade break, and they sent out a new one for free. I sent them a thank you letter for such great customer service, and they sent back a thank you letter and Brassard (patch). Best gun I've ever carried and shot. Packs a punch, and never jams.

sounds like it ought to have a healthy amount of kick to it being that light yet chambered with that powerful of a round. You'll have to let us know how she shoots.
