Train Horn installed!

No air system components are designed to operate above 150psi that I've ever seen. And even 150 psi is high for air.

I called the guys at Hornblasters.com last week - they said they have run their horns up to 300 psi - but the best tone is between 150-175 psi

LOL - my wife took my truck out today with her sister - and they were driving around scaring people - just like Hornblasters - I just shook my head

Told her she's going to get arrested.

My coworkers are starting a pool to see how long before I get:

A) arrested
B) a huge ticket
C) all of the above

Fumes - You are the last person in the world that I would thought would be warning me to be cautious with it :D

Good for the guys at hornblasters, put 600psi through the horn if you want. I'm just saying that solenoid you have might not be built to handle that. check its rating before you condemn it as a bad solenoid.

Rated to 150 psi - starts leaking at around 110 psi - next time I'll call you so you can hold my hand

.........either I just have a bad valve or it's not designed to run over 150 psi - cause it starts leaking out the exhaust at higher PSIs - so that will be replaced soon too!

give me a ring. I'd be glad too. keep running 150-175psi through your next one......for the best tone. you won't damage the solenoid rated to 150psi max.

Hence my reason to get a SMC VXD series valve or Air ride valve - that contrary to your belief, do go over 150 psi.

http://www.smcetech.com/CC_catalogs/smc/pdf/VXD.pdf

Look at max system pressure: 1.5 MPa = 217 psi

I did apparently screw up running 175 psi through this valve - but didn't think it would hurt the valve. I thought a solenoid switch for a semi-truck air axle would be big enough. At worst I'm out $50 for this crappy valve.

take a closer look at what I said first. I said"...that I have seen"

I've never seen one rated higher than 150psi, I didn't say they don't exist.

Air compressor governors on class 8 trucks come pre-set from the factory at 120psi and thats pretty much the industry standard. blowoff valves in the tank are set to 150psi. so components will only ever see 150psi in a governor failure situation = almost never.

but being a HD mechanic I have no idea how a highway tractor works
