Truckasaurus. The rebirth and resurrection of a fallen legend

Thanks dad. I wondered what those d rings were for. Wanted to test the stinger that is all.

And I am not sure what a factory pump for an LS swap into a k5 would be. Delphi? AC Delco? Walbro?

You cant just go buy a stock pump for anything with an gen 3 small block? Like just say an 03 tahoe?

Well not really. You need 58 psi in tank with the correct length and fittings. Just saying that since this is a swap there is no such thing as a "stock" pump. And I usually go with AC Delco.

Fwiw the truck is back up and running. I swapped the fuel pump and sending unit. Fired right up. I think the last pump was just a dud.

On another note. I have been having some issues with my tune. Just preferences really but team208 have been awesome to deal with. Sent josh some logs from my PCM and he adjusted the tune to suit my preferences and mailed me another PCM. Now that is service.

Dropped it in today. Thing pulls so hard. And finally I have burnouts back. Vid coming soon I hope. Ha ha

I just said that to hopefully save somebody some pain and suffering and God forbid death. I've seen people hook straps to non tow points and shit happen. I'm not harping on you, just saying please think about it next time. It's no fun trying to keep somebody alive when your in a remote location trying to get to where an ambulance can even get to you. That's one day I hope to never have to go through again.

Not saying shit can't still happen, just saying those d ring mounts were designed for a reason.

Nobody in the offroad world likes hearing about death or injury to a fellow wheeler.

Oh and sorry about the stock fuel pump comment, my dumbass was just thinking about what motor you were running and not the vehicle it was in. Yeah it be tough to find that factory pump. Lol.

When I worked at a Chevy dealer we always had issues with aftermarket fuel pumps and always recommended the factory pumps. That was on factory vehicles though. Not an 80s blazer with a 2000s era motor. Lol.

Swapped out my roller fairlead and kinked damaged such cable for a synthetic and some jewelry.

so it has been a while since I posted up in here but a lot has happened.

First and foremost I noticed the coating burning off the headers (that I had paid $250 to get coated). I went down to the coating shop and the owner was awesome. Offered to refund me or recoat them but also thought that there was some underlying issue that was causing them to burn off. He thought I could be running lean. Anyway, back story. I have been dealing with a consistent knock sensor going off every time I give the truck the beans. Pretty frustrating and to top it off it never felt like it was running the way it should.

Well, I was heading out to KOH and Josh from Team 208 was gonna be out there. I owed him a PCM so we talked about meeting up and diving in a little deeper into the tune. So I headed out to KOH and was able to connect with Josh, when he wasn't tuning and wrenching for about 48 teams out there.

We connected up his laptop of magic and fairy spells and he immediately noticed that my fuel tables were WAAAAAYYY off. Thought we had a vacuum leak, but some quick searching turned up nothing. He suddenly gets a wild idea and DC's my MAF sensor. Truck stumbles but then recovers and low and behold, my fuel tables look good.

I have a bad MAF (I did buy it from the junkyard with an intake)

So, we de-pin the MAF to keep the PCM happy with intake air temp etc and I drive home (4 hours freeway). Truck does great. Mileage is up to about 14 MPG and power is there. I buy and drop in a new MAF a few days later and decide it is time to move the filter away from the radiator.

Well, this caused all sorts of issues with the MAF tables. With most close to stock configurations, the MAF tables are adequate, well mine aren't keeping up so I kept throwing lean codes. A few calls to Josh and we dc the MAF cable (yellow at the sensor in case you were wondering) and lean code goes away and MAF code (duh) comes up.

Josh is gonna send me a wideband O2 sensor and data logger and we are gonna tune the MAF, Fuel and overall for the mixes my engine is putting out.

Long story short. Josh is the man. Took the time out of his busy day to fine tune my motor, diagnose problems and go above a beyond to help me fix it.

I knew I was gonna have these teething problems when I did the swap and having a partner like 208 in it with me is hugely encouraging.

Anyway, here are some pictures to keep everyone happy.

KOH was awesome. So many cool people, vehicles and racing. Damn it was cold at night FYI. I have a pretty great down bag and I froze my nuts off.

finally got all the dust and dirt out of Truckasaurus today and took the kids down to the beach so they could fill it with sand. They didn't disappoint.

As I mentioned previously I have been having a lot of issues with my intake. First the MAF was bad, my intake temps were high, knock codes firing, running lean etc, so Jerry rigged a intake to get more cold air. That sucked cause I placed the MAF too far from the filter to try and cut down on turbulent air flow which messed up table readings. PCM would mess up under low throttle as it couldn't read tables off MAF. I talked to my 208 and he suggested we wideband o2 it to see exactly what it is reading and tune for that as I mentioned in my last post. So before I drop the sensor in figured I would get my intake finally sorted. Still need to build some brackets for support as zip ties aren't permanent but for the time being this works.

Prob gonna work on some ducting to get more cold air straight to the filter.

I love how they can charge $150 for some aluminum tubing. I tried building it myself and it ended up being more expensive.

just got back from the beach. It has been crazy hot out here in Cali the last week. Like 90's. I surfed in trunks for about an hour today. Anyway truck is pulling like a banshee on speed. Freaking love it. This is with the MAF de-pinned so can't wait until all the tables are sorted.

Why go through all the trouble of keeping the MAF and not just switch to speed density?

So last week I got the front driveshaft made. I went down to a local shop that has built a ton of 4x4 shafts and had them take a look at my angles etc. They were very unconcerned with any crazy driveline angles and said that a 1350 with 4 inches slip would be fine. I did go with 2 1/8th .188 wall tubing. Can rest my truck on it!

We then loaded up the family and headed up to the Sequoias for a weekend. We were staying at a lodge with childcare so the wife and I took the opportunity to do a little snow wheeling. Well, I took the opportunity and made her come along. We drove to a trail and did a little snow shoeing.

The drive in around 10 was uneventful and pretty simple.

I did get a little stuck driving up some hills but was able to get out fairly easily

When I finally got stuck, we decided to go snow shoeing and I would deal with it when I got back

Well, by the time we got back the snow had got a lot softer and I was burying the truck every ten feet. Then began the winch marathon.

The stinger does double as a nice storage for the winch rope. I am airing up my tires with the compressor at this point

Truck, cruised all the way back on the freeway. Getting between 10-14 mpg, it was eating up the freeway until.......

something on the road that I never saw just took huge slice out of my sidewall. It was only losing air when the slice was down, so I decided to drive and air up with the compressor every thirty minutes or so.

At the bottom of the grapevine I decided that I needed to swap the spare on. Prob was the spare is a 37, they don't make a 38 x 17 anymore so I had to pull the good front tire, move it to the back, remove the bad rear tire and put the spare on the front.

At least I know that my bumper works as a lift point like I intended

Never go on a road trip without my impact. This thing is awesome.

got the driveshaft made. Super stoked. It ended up being about half of what I thought it was going to be. Still not cheap but....

I guess I was exaggerating my angles. The driveline shop took one look at it and shrugged and built me a 1350.

Angles all look good.
