Alright so eventually in the next few months I think I want to lift my truck 4 inches, and throw on 35s. I think I am going to piece together a kit from suspension connection, using all tuff country parts, rather than buying a whole kit because I don't want to run the shocks that come with it. So here is what I'm planning to run: tuff country EZ ride 4 inch lift front springs, rear 2 inch block and 2 inch tuff country add a leaf. And bilstien 5100s for shocks. How do yall think this will ride, my truck ride pretty bad right now in stock form so i think the lift will probably ride better than stock, opinions?? Also how do yall think this stuff will flex? This truck is no ramp queen but I do want to be able to run moderate trails with it. Thanks

I am going to guess that the majority of people on here are going to recommend that you go with a shackle flip in the rear instead of add-a-leaf and blocks, myself included. You should get a far better ride with stock rear springs and new shocks than the extra leaf/block scenario. Plus it should flex better too. Ditch your front sway bar as well.

Best kit I have seen is DIY4X.

But there are homebrew options if you need cheap. You can take a front shackle hanger from a rear spring and mount it in place of the stock rear hanger. Then use that with the stock shackle or one of these:

I did a homebrew setup in this thread. Unfortunately I lost the pics from that era between the host website being lost and a local harddrive failure.

So with the diy4x kit can you use your factory shackles or do you have to buy the new 4 inch ones on the website.

factory is an internal shackle, so no, you can't use it... you'll need the 4.5 shackle.. I prefer the x-tieds, but the simple ones work too...

if you need a bit more lift down the road, you can buy the 6" versions..

Ok, so with that diy4x shackle flip and them front 4 inch EZ ride springs do you think the truck will sit level? And the ride should be good with bilstien 5100s?

it should sit level, that kinda depends on how saggy your back springs are.. but even than, you can get a bit more in the back after the fact by getting a new stock spring, or better yet a stock 56 spring from a burb.. or you could just change the shackle to a 6", to get another 3/4"...

you can also adjust either front or back an inch with products like a zero rate from ORD, or EZ-inch from DIY4X.. both the same product, kinda like a mini add-a-leaf....

and yeah, with some bilsteins on there it should ride pretty darn nice...

Cool, that's what I needed to hear, trying to save some money till I have enough to buy another k5 to DD and have some cash leftover to lift this 76 and fix all the rust, maybe paint it. Then go permenatly topless and enjoy it on warm sunny days and wheel it.

Might be cheaper to find one with a nice body/paint and buy it. Relegate the rusty one to daily driver status.

Definitely do the shocks over an add a leaf if you are looking for ride quality.

What gears do you currently have?

Oh, and pics?

From another thread:

This 76 has a whole lot of sentimental value to me so I'd really like to keep it.

I can completely relate to wanting to get it back in good running condition and the state that the PO had it in (I'm guessing either your dad or grandfather). Make 'em proud. :waytogo:

That's what I'm saying, I don't mind daily driving this one for right now but I'd rather get another one as soon as I can and then fix this one up, and I did think about getting a little gas saver, then realized who I was and the decision was clear, another k5! And can I post pics if I'm not a member?

if you link them from an offsite host like photobucket you can... click on the little picture icon at the top of the reply section and paste the image addy in there.. voila...

You have to link pics from somewhere like photobucket.

I don't know how much wheeling you plan on doing but it would be a good time to do custom shock mounts too. I have seen the shocks limit travel on lots of different builds over the years.

Course this gets into custom fab
