URGENT!!!!!!! need help *update 3-12-08*

so I went and bump the motor over till I felt the first small amount of air come out through the #1 then when the motor bumps over more more it shoots out a huge burst of air out of the #1.

when I do that the timing mark passes the zero degree mark. so then I did the process over again till I felt the first small bust of air then I went ahead and cranked the motor over by hand till the timing make lines up with the zero degree mark. then I went ahead and pulled the cap off and the rotor is facing the #8 plug.

am I doing this correctly?

so should I pull the distributor out?

this was done today after I thought I had the correctly done yesterday.
yesterday it was on tdc but on the exhaust side.

Are you sure you are setting TDC correctly?

I usually just turn the motor over by hand to set TDC. It is easier for me since I am usually alone when doing it.

You are doing it correctly it should be on the #1 plug if your pulling the number one plug it may be a little after it but not on the #8

when I had it at tdc yesterday and the timing marks aligned and the rotor was facing the #1 plug it still wasn't starting up. and was backfiring through the tbi. my buddy said that it might be tdc on the exhaust end. I'm completely lost on what I should do next.

it should be on the compression stroke if you have air blowing past your finger when you bump it over. Are you making a good seal with your finger over the spark plug hole? it should be a good burst of air when it blows past. If you line the timing mark up at the balancer after that point the rotor should be pointing exactly at #1 not number 8

yeah I'm making a good seal. I feel a small burst then when the gets bumped over again there's a huge burst of air that blows my finger out of the hole. when that huge burst of air happens the mark passes the zero degree mark. so then I'll do it again till I feel the first small burst of air then I stop and turn the motor over by hand.

not yet! I just went back to work on tuesday so I haven't had a chance to mess with it. whenever your free give me a call.

Not going over 25mph and running poorly is an indication of a plugged Cat.

doubt it. brand need high flow cat with less than 1,000 miles on it.
the original cat that I replaced was plugged.

:waytogo:big thanks to brian (readymix) for his help over the phone. :D I finally got the truck started yesterday. tomorrow I'm going to time the motor and I'm set.
