I am going to mount them under the hood and run a hardline from each one to a 3-5 gallon air tank mounted between the frame rails.
with how hot these things get, i doubt under the hood is a good idea. the bed would probably be the best spot i think (well safest anyways)... just my .02

Not sure what the price is, I believe 24.99, ill let you know when i find out...if they are, should i pick one up for you?

I let one run on an airtank and when it got to 100 psi it started sounding funny.
Mine is making some funny noises now, kind of like a grinding sound, but it is intermittent. Probably about 1 hour total run time on it.

I may end up taking it apart to see what's going on.

Anybody convert the outlet fitting on it yet? Is it just standard 1/4" pipe thread?

I saw these today at Pep Girls.. Don't know what the price was though.
The Pep Boys here had them in the Sunday sale paper for $59.99. :eek1: Every Checker in Colorado Springs has zero inventory of them. That's who had them on clearance for $25. :(

I am currently using one for my air locker. I have it plumbed in to a 5 gallon tank and a pressure switch that shuts off at 105. It does start to labor to get from 80 to 105. it overheated and shut off after I aired up 3 40" tires from 7 to 15 psi I was half way on the 4th and it shut off but it was 90degrees plus that day. It is a NPT 1/8" fitting not a 1/4" BTW on the compressor it has some weird thread on the hose side so I bought the air line compression fitting to convert it to NPT 1/4"

This is the couple of very simple mods I did. Standard QD, plugged the other hole to prevent the fitting breaking off, 30 amp plug and a fused 30 amp receptacle direct to the battery. I use the regular coiled air line and a better gage.

12 vdc pressure switch arrived today for one of mine! I only ordered one in case I didn't like the design. Guesss I'll order another. Got it at JC Whitney. I think it's 120 psi and 1/8 inch npt. Test it this weekend. ;)

Any tips on how to remove some of the heat these generate

You won't be able to stop it from generating heat, but a simple 12 volt fan (radio shack) mounted on/near the cooling fins should help shed some heat and hopefully give a longer life expectancy.
