I've heard about Blazer bash a few times and now i've decided I want to go to Blazer Bash 2011. Never been to Moab, what are the most important things to have? What are good tires to run out there? I have a 77 blazer with a 6'' spring lift, 35'' tires, sway bar disconnect, 9500 pound winch on the front with a synthetic rope, tuned port injection in the works, 205 t case, front and rear diff guards, 1/2 ton axles with lock rights front and rear, power tank, high lift jack, and lots of recovery equipment, Ord engine crossmember, ORD front and rear shackles, and hoping to cage it before blazer bash. Thanks for your input.

Your list of mods looks good for a lot of the trails in Moab.

Add vehicle reliability, and take it a little easy on the axles, and it'll work out just fine.

In fact, if you wanted, I believe you could check in with the organizers of the Bash in person...

X2 what JMS said.

A lot of folks run Goodyear MTRs, but you see all brands and styles.
Have you upgraded your axle shafts? What about your drive shafts?

Due to the high friction of the rock, one has to be careful to avoid wheel spin with 1/2 ton axles.

Get everything done on the truck way before you go. I realize that isn't possible for some but its advisable for all.

Your equipment list sounds good. Your rig sounds capable of doing harder trails in Moab I would bring extra rear shafts.

My BIL (whom hopefully will be coming with in 2011) ran 36" swampers on a rear 10 bolt with no problems at all. I have also seen 10 bolts break at the first sign of distress.

Everyone appreciates it when you are prepared. Even when you are prepared you can have a bad trip. But luck favors the prepared.

So the biggest thing I would say is bring spare rear shafts and know how to change them.

IMHO just about any tire works good in Moab. Some will do better but just about any tire you have will work.

Hope to see you there

You have the setup to run all kinds of stuff in Moab :pimp:

My advice would be in line with what Michael suggested, make sure the vehicle is reliable. I would recommend spare shafts (especially the rear, that's the "get ya home" axle) and know how to change them.

Otherwise get out here and have some fun!

Scott (mrk5) is the one that has been organizing Blazer Bash, he lives in Ault I believe.

Bring a good attitude and plan on having fun no matter what happens and/or what breaks.

I know I will have to be very carefull with my half ton axles. I am planning on taking a pair of rear axles in the blazer and probably another pair in my tow rig, and the same for the fronts. I was also figuring extra front and rear driveshafts and u joints. I race demolition derby cars so I am use to taking extra parts and repair options for anything that can happen. I have a set of mud and snow coopers on some aluminum wheels right now. I would like to get some black steel wheels with some new tires, but not sure what tires. I have a set of new trail ready beadlocks with used super swampers on another blazer but they are 33's, not sure if I want to run 33's with a six inch lift. I don't want to swap tires on the beadlocks.

Yep you are set up for some fun. Just decide your trails with how pretty your body is or is not in mind.

Hopefully I will be able to make it back again this year.

The body does'nt matter typical rust and alot of trail dents.

ur good to go on a higher level than I
I want to do everything, but prolly pussy out big time when it comes to mangling any body panels. The paint is crap and I don't care about looks so much, but those rear panels are hard to replace.

I like this thread. I want to be in on BB2011 so bad.

I really want to go, it seems like a long time away, but it will be here before we know it. I pulled my tranny and transfer case friday, tranny has 3,000 miles on it and is having problems shifting. Since the t case is out I'm working on twin sticking it today. My attitude is as long as nobody gets hurt and you have fun and I can get it back home to fix it it's all good.

Yeah I live in Ault and work in Evans with Greeley kinda in the middle. If you ever see my Blazer around it has big Blazer Bash logos on the side windows.

The first time we went to Blazer Bash before we were organizing it, we had 1/2ton axles and 37" tires locked rear only. We did fine the first day on Hell's revenge but we weren't so lucky on the second day. We were on Gold Bar Rim but to be perfectly honest we didn't really make it to the trail. It was driver error really. We were trying to climb an obstacle and I let the truck start hopping too much and managed to shock load the 12bolt rear enough to strip teeth off the ring gear and pinion. Since I had alloy shafts and a full-case Detroit, the ring & pinion were the weak spot.

So my lesson is that you kinda have to take the long view at Blazer Bash, especially when it's a long expensive trip that you might make just a few times. Try to challenge yourself enough to keep it interesting, but keep in mind you gotta make it for 3 days. Unless you have the ability and parts to fix major breakage.

If you want to run some trails this spring or summer to get a feel for things, drop me a PM or email and we can set something up. Like mentioned, the ideal is to get your truck setup and then do some local runs to work out the bugs.

I would like to go and take it easy the first time and see what I need to really get after it. I am building two '77 blazers and the one that I will hopefully be taking is the less built one. I will be trailering there and back so as long as I can get on the trailer for the ride home all is good. It would be great to run some trails with you. The friends I had that were into wheeling have all moved out of state. My projects have been put off a few times moved, had boy girl twins now five, and so on. Really excited to join this site and get back into building. I would really like to get it caged before Blazer Bash need to find someone local to do it, and hopefully not get charged an arm and a leg. I am also saving to change to TPI next month.

Fall in line behind me. I do not want to work on the truck i take to Moab. I just run the fun stuff and look at the sites. Do Hell's, Metal Massher, Flat Iron Messa and many others like them. Having a tow rig is a great peace of mind also.

At BB, if you brake, and you were not being too stupid, people help out. This year a guy drove the rig from Denver, tore a front radius arm off. Someone came up with a welder and helped him fix the brackets. He passed me on the 70 doing about 80mph up hill. Guess they fixed it real well.

Point is, be prepared, and drive smart. You will definitely enjoy the weekend.

i am looking to do the same. i also have a 77 k5 that i am building but i dont think it will be ready for the bb 2011. but i am going to try to make it out ride the easy trails and take alot of pics

Look forward to having you. Jason4x4 will guarantee a fun time no matter what he has to do, and I he'll do ANYTHING.....

:haha:
