Want to Go to Blazer Bash 2011 What do I Need ?

i think between ssyork and i we carry enough spare parts when we go places to make most small town carquest stores look understocked

it's sooooooo far away for some
and sooooooo close for others
timewise that is lol

I agree, i'm excited to go. At this point I try to talk to my wife to make plans for going and she just looks at me like i'm crazya since its 10 months away. For me I need to get it figured out so i can get things done in time. Like a cage built. :eek1:

The cage never stopped me..:haha:

As you know we don't have a cage in the General right now so my wife has a sticker she found in Moab that says "Not too proud to walk." :rotfl: When we get to the difficult stuff, the family unloads.

While a cage can be a valid piece of safety equipment, is can also be a piece of hazard to the occupants, particularly with respect to head injuries. If/when you install a cage, head clearance should be a concern, and helmets for the occupants might be a good idea.

and some padding I'm sure

can that stuff be had at Home Depot? Like plumbing insulation or something.

Its great to see interest from new people, and that they are asking questions on what to bring, spare parts etc, etc.:waytogo: Goes back to the thread that started after BB this year about tech inspections or something of the like. Mine is starting the tear down for next year this weekend. Just got off of the frame rack to make sure I started with a straight one.

Got my transmission back friday and got my new flywheel in the mail friday. Got the twin stick conversion done now I just have to finish the 10 spline to 32 spline conversion. Trying to stay on track for Blazer Bash.

I want to buy some new tires before Blazer Bash, want something that will work for blazer bash and on the trails here in colorado. Not worried about how they are on the street, the tires on it now are still over half tread. I plan on buying some black steel wheels to mount the new tires on and use just for the trails and getting there. I will trailer it to blazer bash. Use the ones on it now for when I drive on the street. So what is your opinions?

Dumb question here. What kind of material, size, wall thickness, ect., does a cage need to be made out of to make a full sized rig safe? Are we talking about 1 1/2", .120 wall or does it really need to be 1 3/4", .120 wall? How does it need to be made? What would a good cage look like for a half cab full size?

I really would like to attend this time. Crap not happening on my rig kept me from going last time. Thanks in advance.

For daily driving duties I would take a good look at the BFG KM2's or the Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar. Radials for sure and depending on the lift size I would look at a 37" tire or there abouts.

I would do minimum 1.75x.120 and at least DOM in the critical hoops.

I forgot to say I am running 35 12.50 15's on half ton axles and looking for something for a trail tire.

1.75" .120" wall is the general size for a truck like yours, many jump up to 2" .120" wall.

I'd much rather see you in Moab with a 1.5" cage if it's that or nothing but 1.75" is much, much better.

I have said it and will say it again a 1.75" HREW cage will save your life once. A DOM cage will save your life several times

Design is almost more important in a cage, I say almost, but a poorly designed cage out of 2" DOM will fail sooner than a very well built cage out of 1.5 HREW.

And welding all the way around all the joints Rob :flipoff10:

I'd stick with 35's and run a Goodyear MT/R or if you need less expensive a 36" Irok, bias or radial depending on budget and personal preference. I'm not that crazy about the road comfort with my TSL's.

Those are tires I have personal experience with. I've also heard lots of good things about the trail capabilities of Pitbull tires.
