well today i replace the leaking pinion seal, and set up a crush sleeve eliminator. also had a bad rear hub seal. Towing my dune buggy to Laughlin NV Thursday for a weekend of fun.
baring Marshall law I suppose. Still need to wire in an aux 12v receptacle, for my electric cooler and phone charger.

We'll just got word the Laughlin run is off. Oh well I have lots of ORD goodies to get installed.

Got a some rear quarter window weather strip today, from GMCPuals. Ordered Thursday 2ish Pm pdt, arrived Monday. Thanks for the quick service @GMCPaul . Now if I get a whole week off I'll have a project I can do w/o disabling the truck for a longish period. Discovered a leak passenger side window seal, only 43 years old I guess it's time.

Steering brace in my burb, this update has been on my list since I first heard it was a thing, way back when only the frame plate was available. Then I discovered the ORD brace, put that on my list. Well I got it done today. Thou I think I need to find a better spot for my P/S cooler.

So I am helping stimulate the small business economy. I ordered this today.

The bumper is from RLCweld fab
I also picked up a used 9k warn winch to go with it.

I have one of those bumpers, it's still wrapped. gotta get it painted and installed

well Wifey has been driving the burb around to run errands. I figured it needed gas, so i took it to Costco today. While waiting my turn, next in line to pump the truck quit restart little burble quit. Shit I'm outta gas gauge shows little more than 1/4. The great guys working the gas island help me push it to the pump. I put 26.6 gal in 40 gal tank so gauge was correct I had @ +1/4 tank. Truck starts and drives away like nothing happened.
I can't remember if I ever let it get to 1/4 before. I have driven to Lake Havasu little under 300 miles @8 mpg 37.5 gal, but I would have filled up in Barstow so 164 miles to the Pilot on I40/sr95 20.5 gal half tank. That trip I had and electric pump out side near bottom of tank and mechanical pump on engine. I July 2019 the mechanical pump failed so I by passed it, only the electric. Looking through my fuel log I see several entries over 26 gals since the mechanical pump was deleted.

So I was thinking that the electric pump wasn't low enough to scavenge the bottom 1/4, but after looking at my fuel log I'm not sure now. I don't think it was heat related only low 90"s this evening.
I let it sit while the person in front of me finished maybe 3 4 minutes, He pulled away I crank her up she started and stalled. Filled her up, started right up. So maybe 8 minutes of engine off, to cool.
February new sender and all hoses. May new electric pump at tank just below middle of tank. July move the pump lower by body width of pump, has run good until today. Approx 2000 miles since electric pump.
curious

Have you ever ran it out of gas completely before ?...till there was no gas left in the tank at all?..

My friend installed a new gas tank & sending unit in a Suburban square body in the past ,that had the 40 gallon tank, and evidently they sent the wrong sender unit,it would run out gas with about 5+ gallons still in the tank, the sender may have been for a smaller capacity tank..

Original tank, and I have filled past 26 gallon several times with this setup. Going to inspect this afternoon.
I just discovered Affordable fuel injection this week, I like what they offer.
I would do the spectra fuel injection tank and pump. In the the tank is the best bet. I would need to regulate it down to carb till tbi.
Tank needs to come out have shackle flip and body mounts to do, so......

The way you describe this - could be something wrong w/ the pickup - hose come loose inside the tank or has gained a hole that at 1/4 tank is exposing air.

Yes something changed, I had been idling with the AC on, at first I thought vapor lock, but not that hot and electric pump. My hearing is horrible and I tried to hear if the pump was running, but there was to much noise around. I can hear it in my driveway when outside the truck not running.
Will be driving it to Apple Valley tomorrow 50 60 miles 1 way, gonna throw a 5 gal can in back just in case.

Truck ran and drove 10 minutes b4, my wife had taken the truck to the vets and back no problem.

Well I spent the evening making my fuel issue worse. I found a spot were the pre pump fuel filter was rubbing,
I changed the filter and made a longer section of hose between filter and pump, to solve rub issue.
Start it up on choke runs good for 45 seconds, dies. Restarts and dies. Well s$_-.
Ok so I crawl under invade the 14 bff personal space, just like Joe would,
I see the whole line from sender to pre pump filter it looks fine. Get my trusty bendy flexy 1/4 drive carb adjusting tool with 1/4" deep socket, undo the clamp wiggle that hose off.
Looks good can't find an issue. New hose, with an extra foot or so, I get on clamp in position and tight. 14bff says I'm groping it, and owe it dinner by this time.
Give it a test siphon I immediately get gas only little thou. Hook the new hose from tank directly to pump, no filter. Try to start, wants to, but no go.
I can hear the pump running, but what hell I have another pump. Install new pump, no joy. Must be something wrong in tank. Just my frickin luck it's full.
Well I have an empty plastic 55 gal drum I'll siphon into.
Think I am going to buy a spectra tbi tank with in tank electric pump.
The sender and pick up are spectra, and @ 1 year old 2k-ish miles.
I don't know that the spectra part failed but am at a loss to come up with another explanation.
I stated earlier tank was coming out to do body mounts and shackle filp, just a bad time for it. Oh well stuff happens.

so this morning I went out turned the key to on waited 15 seconds, heard the pump running, cranked right up and started. Ran through choke steps, turned ac put in gear pull it forward, backed up, forward. revved, idle was a little low. I don't get it. When I finally called it quits last night, at 11 pm, the truck was cool hadn't run since 5 pm. going to need to get it to mess up again, and go through the basics, esp spark and fuel.

Wife has been using truck all week to run around local. The 1 time she got on freeway, fairly steep up hill on ramp, the truck acted like starved for fuel, once up to speed on freeway it ran well. I double checked the specs on the replacement electric pump, is only 30 gph. I had purchased a Jegs mechanical pump part number 15950 80gph awhile back. I installed the Jegs pump, the outlet from pump is higher then stock, bent my stainless steel Inline tube pump to carb line. Going to need use braided hose. I took for test drive electric pump off. At 40ish mph in forth @1500 rpms the truck struggles hesitates bucks, turn the electric on and it cleans up and run right. It was doing the same thing a year ago, reason for electric pump install. The 5 month old mechanical pump failed in July, and I by passed it. Ran on 38 gph electric till 2 weeks ago, when electric pump failed. Edelbrock micro pump. @ 1 year old and aprox 2k miles. I had another generic pump I bought as a back up no name copy of Edelbrock, currently installed. I don't understand why this configuration Qjet and mechanical pump, 355, mild cam, stock GM heads, GM manifold cast iron both, no egr, 700R4 1600 stall, will not run well. If you read through this thread you will see I have been through the fuel system several times. Carb, all hoses, new pick up in tank, 3 mechanical pumps. Tank is clean.

So now I am considering Spectra 40 gal tank and this https://smile.amazon.com/Spectra-Pr...automotive&vehicleId=9&vehicleType=automotive. I will need to regulate the pressure. So any one have thoughts about the Spectra brand or quality ?

So I have decided, no proof, that the fuel dilivery failure, at Costco gas station, was caused by the long wait at idle and no return to tank. This caused the pump to over heat, cavitate, and be damaged.

This pump performed well enough untill damaged.
I am going to use a fuel pressure regulator with a return and larger pump that I can use 3/8ths fittings.
If that set up let's me down I am going to go to a tbi tank and pump.
