I have shims otw. I forgot to order Friday, was doning stuff with my son, went shopping for his Bday. Monday morning checking my email I see a shipping notice from ORD, :doah:missed getting my shim shipped with that back order oh well.

After lunch I took a slag hammer to the rust holes on the passenger side, I decided to cut that out and put in a patch panel. so I am off to the pick and pull to find and cut out a patch panel.
I didn't want to pt everything away to go to bone yard, so I worked on making a front bucket seat bracket for the front inside. Was hanging mid air, my stop gap was a block of wood.

Been a very frustrating morning.
Called ORD to check on my shim order, backordered maybe next week. Well next week is to late.
My other backorder, which I received a tracking number for on Mondaythe 12th, hasn't left ORD's warehouse yet. That is a whole other project so when it gets here it gets here.
But I need the shims. Going camping next Monday for a couple days. Wife and I need to relearn after mostly motorhomes or hotels for the last 10 or so years.
So 4wp says they have the pro comp brand shim in stock at the store nearest me. 30ish mile round trip. I head on over, 40 years of driving owning a 4x4 and this is the 1st time I have been in 4wp store or tried to buy anything from them. Well guess what they don't have it, the computer is wrong and is a common problem.
So F'it if I have to I'll make the dam things.
Go to the boneyard to cut out a patch panel for my for board, No cut off wheels allowed, I guess I can understand why, but I don't have a cordless sawsall in Ca. is in Az atm :angry1:
Got to get something done today.
I figured I'd weld up the holes that had good metal around them. Got @6 done not to bad.
Here is 1/2" drilled hole, I found and haven't a clue why it was drilled, and then left open.

No pictures today. Got the spare tire well cleaned up rust treated primed painted and installed. Continued to put down the butyl sound deadener. 36 sq ft is not enough to do the front and middle of a Suburban. Got more coming for Wednesday.
Laid the middle half of the carpet in, I think ACC put jute in a few wrong places. Need to cut some squares out for the lower middle seat folding brackets. When I took it apart those brackets had carpet to metal floor board, factory jute and underlay. Experimented cutting the new jute, it's tough, going to be a job. There is even jute pad at every seat belt bolt hole.
Should get my shims tomorrow. Will install those then work on trimming the carpet. Was a bit warm and sunny today, warmer still tomorrow.

Shims are in @1* down now gonna run it.

Waiting on more Butyl deadener, got the middle half of the carpet rough trimmed. Need to punch a bunch of holes in the carpet.
Anyone have any tips or tricks to get them in correct spots.
I am considering spay paint from under the truck to mark the spots for seat belts and brackets.

I use the technique of installing the bolts into the holes, then start the cut on the bolt head. It requires some care to make sure that it's positioned properly beforehand, and start the cut carefully, of course.
Spray paint may be a challenge for a few of the holes if they are shielded by reinforcement flanges. It could work well otherwise, though I wouldn't like to have to flip the carpet up to cut the hole.

Started out the day putting a new seal on the fresh air door for the hvac. Old seal was had cracked and crumbling. No one offers a seal for the 73 up, just 67-72 and vettes.
I made my own. Sourced 12x12x1/16" sheet of neoprene, drilled the rivets, . Laid 1 half of the door on the new piece, marked the rivet holes with a transfer punch, cut the holes with an arbor punch. cleaned, primed and painted the metal parts. Using the old piece I cut out a new seal @1/2" larger than door all the way around. Stainless steel rivet it together install in kick panel trim the top and bottom all done.
After that I worked on the carpet some more. There are a dam lot of holes to cut on suburban carpet, and it is time consuming for me. Making sure they are in the correct place, keeping the carpet from moving while marking.
Spray paint from underneath will work, gotta make sure the carpet is laid into all the nooks and crannies. Another method I found, is to screw the bolts into holes under the carpet, feel them out hen bang on them with a soft face mallet, marks the rubber underlay. Then I punch out with the appropriate size arbor punch and block of wood.
So old carp stops right at the top edge where the bed starts. Then there are cut out for the seat bracket that the bottom half of the folding seat rest on. The new carpet goes up and folds over the edge, underneath the upper half of the middle seat.
I have 2 option, trim out cuts out to match for the middle bracket, or elongate the small holes the bolt the bracket on to help align the seat belt holes. I am going to try option 2.
threatened to drizzle all day finally started @ 7 pm.

Got the rear in the front didn't fit as well. ACC gives you lots of extra around the edges. Is so thick the sill plates need a strong push to get the holes to line up. I have some finish trimming to do on the passenger front, install the front pass seat, a few seat belts and some trim. Then she's derivable again.

I went for a drive today. Rear is nice and smooth the take off shudder is gone, and 68-75mph t case shifter rattle is almost nonexistent. Now I can feel all the crapped out bushing in the front suspension. I do have new very low frequency shudder, I can feel in 1st and 2nd just before the up shift @ 2300-2500 rpm. Dam I need a reed tac.
So tomorrow the Wife and I are loading up, and heading to San Bernardino National Forest, for 2 night camping. Going to use a forest service road to get there should be fun.

Cool! Have fun on the trip

Monday Wife and I loaded up, drove 40ish miles up into the Mountains. Ran down the highway smooth. Cold, low clouds, a little rain. Short drive down a forest service road,@5 miles.
Camp set up learned a few items to bring in the future. Got colder and windy, only a small fire at first, then none the wind was just to much.
On the way out I went about 20 miles on a different forest service road. Truck performed well, thou I could feel the roached out from front spring and shackle bushings. When we got back to paved roads I had a new high speed coast vibration, and felt like I needed more pedal to go highway speeds. Might have been a head wind, but I couldn't see evidence of one.
Got home unloaded. Looked for loose stuff nothing obvious.
Thought maybe I bent a front spindle. Jacked up the front spun front wheels no wobble, bearings felt good left side just a tad looser than the right. I need to inspect the wheel bearings, I haven't had the hubs apart ever since I aquired this truck mid 2000's. Still have the full time slugs, I always figured when I converted to locking hubs it would get done.
I did start the front brushing replacement. Got the front eyes done easy, bushing were still whole, but spring was sliding side to side.
Got the Upper front spring hanger out on the left side, and the spring bushing. Then had to clean up, invited to dinner with my son's fiance parents.
Will try to get more done today.
Tomorrow we are off to Grass/Penn valley for 3-4 days, visit wife's family.

Give me a call when you are here in grass valley.
I can pm my number

Pictures of front shackle hanger. Old and new. Air chiseled the rivets, High speed carbide burr in a small air motor to open up the big hole to fit new Front Upper Shackle Hanger. (FUSH), 90* air drill to drill out the rivet holes to 7/16", jobber length drill bit would be beneficial here. left side done right partially done.
Will finish after my trip.
Only need to loosen sway bar bushing mounts to do install, was pulling axle to passenger side. I have to remember to disconnect it at the axle to measure full droop.

We are home from our nor cal gold country family visit.
I was able to get together with @imiceman44 over breakfast, we had an enjoyable conversation, always great meeting fellow CK5'er.
Today I finished the front spring and shackle bushings, the right were as roached out as the left.
I am still leaning to driver side in the front. Front left is 3/4" lower than the right. I think I may have a broken spring.
According to the previous owners paper work this lift was done in 1983, so I guess the lift springs don't owe me anything.
Gonna check ORD see which way I want to go.
Ride is much nicer, but I have a clunk when front left drops in a whole not so much on bump.
I remembered to disconnect the sway bar and measure full droop, no change same same.
Atm full droop 21.5" to ride hight 19"

1st real road trip since all the work starting late March. New rear suspension Works well truck rolls down the road nice bumps and whoops are well controlled. I have a vibration that I don't like at all. It starts at 2k rpm and continues till @ 2250. Doesn't do it when rev'ed in park to 2k. I suspect my rear pinion angle. 1 piece drive shaft, super duty c/v 1350 rear joint, new in April. After the shackle flip the pinion was point up very slightly. I added 4 degree shims to point the pinion just slightly down. But looking at the drive line it looks almost straight
What do you guys think should I increase the shim to 5 or 6 degrees to get a little more down on the pinion. Or should I look else where front axle ? it is a full time with locked hubs and no drive shaft ?
