You want to heat up the onions until they’re golden brown. :rotfl:
I didn't want to go there but I noticed lately he's been giving us a lot of material.
My brother does that a lot and blames his fat fingers.
I guess he has fat fingers too:pimp:

I just figured he was trying to spice up his thread. :dunno:

Pretty happy right now. Was out doing some errands, on the way home decided was time to select 4wd on some desert trails.
Hubs have been locked since yesterdays errands, @40 miles on pavement. Pull onto a dirt tract, stopped, trans in park, went for 4w hi wouldn't go. I think I need more floor opening. So 4w low it is, went right in, cruised a mile or 2 at 12-13 mph hard pack with rocks. Suspension is working, no whoops.

Decide I need to give the front axle a chance to pull. Spotted a mild hill on other side of the wash.

Cross wash no problem even in the soft sandy spots. Said hill

Top of hill very sxs.

Sketchy part in the middle

IMG_20230707_172244.jpgExit to wash, tipped up on 3 wheels maybe 2,

All in @7 miles, no grinding or weird vibrations. Hit a good rock with plow section of the 14bff
, no damage.
Got back to pavement, put in park, let off brake and selected 2w hi easy, last few miles on pavement smooth no new noises or rattles.
Diff temp at home after a few minute to find my IR gun was 139
Eng temp got up to the middle line, little hotter than normal, trans temp below 180, ambient 107 a/c center vent 62

Sounds good.

For the first since before I owned this truck it has all 3 support rods. 2 from engine mounts to bell housing cover, and bell housing to t case.
Per usual I had to modify the driver side rod. Was to short, and wanted to push on the pan.

The t case support

Got my skid plate installed.
This plate and second xmember came from another 77 with a sm465. So the frame holes didn't line up. Drilled 4 new onesIMG_20230802_123823.jpg

Rarity to see right there, I've never personally seen a set of all the suports still on the truck.

Only when I worked on them new. This truck and the 78 my family had the late 80's were all missing, plus they both had car TH350 in them. The 78 full time actually cracked the bell housing.
Took 3 different sources for me to collect all the pieces, not inculding the proper trans case.

Also modded the parking brake cables today. The section from the frame to the brake drums were to short and acting as limit straps. I cut the brakets off the frame and spaced them lower with some 1 1/4" square tube.

Got a little more done today.
My original idea to put all added on electrical goodies on metal plate on drivers inner fender need to much fab, and my current pace of updating wiring I might have gotten my idea realized by BB24. I hit the easy button.
Installed all the under hood wiring for the ARB compressor and my Baja Design lights. Decided on spot for the compressor and the lights, thou lights probably long term temp.

Tearing down for new oil pan one piece gasket, timing cover reseal, and MAW, water pump, timing chain.
Near as I can remember this pump is original to the engine build in 1997.
Was curious as to the impeller size and condition. Well it's middle size impeller, 3.5" same as new replacement I bought. Pretty clean for 25 years old20230812_102935.jpg

Looks really clean

Think that front seal was leaking?

My new balancer compared to old.

Outer ring is slightly cooked on hub too. Pitched it, no temptation to use elsewhere.
Timing chain is nice and tight, has to have at least 40k miles on it.

My dumb ass didn't think to put the engine on TDC -C #1, until after the starter was on the floor. Gonna have to bar it over.

For the life of me I can't find the cam gear dot. I put this chain on in 97, it runs like this. I have the crank dot straight up, on TDC compression.
Can you see it cam dot?20230812_131742.jpg
