1. No Factory 1 Ton
2. No Factory previsions for Roof Rack
3. No Inside/Outside Galvinized or Zink coated sheet metal
4. No GenII outside Spare tire mount
5. Somewhat week frame
6. Pathetic factory sound system
7. No quick release top

That I've only got one. I need one to build into a sweet tow rig. One to lighten and build up into a rock crawler, one with a diesel, snorkle, etc... built for trails.

The only thing I hate about my K5 right now is the crappy sound system, or there lack of, that it has. One dash speaker just doesn't cut it. After I get the new tires and wheels and lift on I think that is going to be my first priority. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If I had to pick one and just one,

<font color="brown">I'd say RUST. </font color> They rust way too easily. I've spent more on rust repair in two years than I care to recall.

My babies are good to me, when they sick up they do it at home.

Starts up everyday with no toubles, no choke either.
Sh!t now that I think of it none of my rigs have a choke.
The Burb has a manual one but it never gets used.
Hate a Gm rig??? why.
I have had nothing but Gm rigs for the last 18 years about 12 trucks. and the 2 Trans Ams a 73 and a 78.
The last time my rig got sick was the starter.
I took the starter apart got all the sand out of it and it is still kickin.
oh and at about 90 the steering wheel gets a shudder to it.
That gets old after about 45 minutes.

Can't see the death drops in front of me... But as far as the original "sound system" is concerned, I kinda like the original factory AM radio my 78 came with and still works. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

3 things I hate most.

1. Visibility over the front clip/hood. There is no visibilty, Can't see jack and have to rely on spotter mostly.
2. Width...fat ass!
3. Rust prone at the rear tailpan and various other places.

Looks kind of cool but pretty rare, I have only ever seen one with my own eyes. It was seldom ordered so GM quit offering it in the 80's. Leer has bolt on brackets you can bolt to the top and will accept standard gutter mount roof racks </font color>
3. No Inside/Outside Galvinized or Zink coated sheet metal

What I hate.....Rust and the high hood. Never had a prblem seeing around it till it was 7ft tall. Now I can loose small cars in the blind spots real easy!
Width has caused me a few issue but once you get over body damage then you can put it anywhere you want it. I guess that's why my truck looks like it's been rolled. Isn't a straight pannel on the truck.

Rust, that's gotta be my number one. Visibilty and width are annoying but the longer you own, drive, park and wheel it the less of an issue it becomes. I can reliably pull my Jimmy within 6" of a car in front of me without sweating it and am fairly good at judging where it will fit.

Relying on your spotters is part of wheeling...no matter what you wheel there will be some area you can't see very well, unless you're wheeling a quad or a dirtbike.

What do I hate about the K5... oh, get me started!!! Umm, well, ok.. yeah. So I can only think of 5 ...

5. The tops weigh a ton.

4. Steep driveline angles, lets face it, the trucks are short and I like that.. but they pretty much require $1000 in CV shafts if your pushing any power with anything over 4" lift.

3. Over the hood visibility. At least its big enough to crawl over the jeep in front of you if you can see him when your going over the hill.

2. Rust .. but I have a late 70's K5 which is mostly intact, so I can't complain too much

1. The fact that most of the US has folks like you sharing info on what parts swap in so easy, then you all go out and ransack the junk yards taking all the good stuff!!! Somebody needs to find a cheap way to beef out 10 bolts so we can rid the junk yards of those too(which are all over the place).

it gets 7 mpg

i always have to work on it

noone at the parts store has a clue b/c its not less than 5 yrs old

people ask why i cut the roof off a perfectly good truck.

people complain about me not taking it to a mechanic and then want me to work on their vehiles that break.

But i still love this thing and wouldnt trade it for anything in the whole world! I love the fact that everyone kinda looks at you funny to. especially when you know its b/c they dont have a clue!!!

That they have become so popular that it is hard to find one in good shape for a decent price! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

One thing.....THE WIDTH!!! But Mike has a plan for that!! I just got done cutting a spare body 12"(6" on each side!),then bobbed the rear another 8".This is the new plan!!Now to weld it all back up and install it on the 3/4 ton K/5 frame.Whenever I figure out this damn dig camera,I'll post some pics!!So much for the roll cage I was doing!!Mike
