What is this plug??

Randy, there is no way that is stock to an 80 Chevy. Those plugs don't exist on the 80 models, so either it was added by a PO, or it got snagged on something and dragged under the truck. There is no weatherpack connectors on the 1980 models, although there are times I wish there were.

It's possible someone wired it in but idk why. I'll check further when i get out to my dad's today. Trace the wire or something

Weatherpack connectors were definately used in the 80's vehicles. I know for a FACT they were used on the trucks that had the feedback carbs. There were two of them on the carb. Now i know this connector he's talking about is in his hand down near the trans pan but we have no idea how long the wire is so it might be a wire from on top the engine somewhere that got pushed behind the engine and fell down to the trans area. It's also hard to tell but the connector is a two prong connector but i only see one wire on the back side. I know one of the carb connectors i'm talking about was a two wire weatherpack connector AND had a red seal just as this one does.

I looked it over today. I followed it up the firewall where it was spliced into a green wire that disappears into a 2 wire grommet of sorts (looks factory). Idk what the original intent was but apparently it helps this thing run cause i'm at a loss as why the POS will not start

Either way i'm pulling the motor once my other one gets done so i just gave up tryin to get it to run for now. It's not a necessity

Thanks for the help anyhow

The only single green wire i know of is for the temp sender. GM did use some weatherpack style temp senders.

It has one of those already hooked up to a spade type connector sending unit in the head. I'll take pics tomorrow if it helps

i think i have that same two prongd random thing just dangling around near my transmission(1985 Jimmy 700R4 tranny)my speedo doesnt work either but it is mechanical with a cable coming from the transfer case

My 83 jimmy has a connector like that at the transfer case shifter..Plugs the little light in on the shift indicator...Or I could be out to lunch...lol

ya mine has that to its a plug that i thnk is also two pronged that goes on top of transfer case...but i also have another one similar to his picture on the drivers side just dangling there between the shock and were the engine meets the tranny

It's possible that may have been what it for originally. It looks like they changed the shifter boot and all. Just not gonna plug it in.

Got it started today. I wired the cap wrong  I put it on right the first time and looking at it i thought, "That isn't right." then changed it to wrong. I've only done this a hundred times but i guess i was rushing to get it done. :doah:

Bought a tranny cooler from Napa today but the idiots that package these put smaller hose than the nipple on the cooler  sooo i had to go back down there and get the right 3/8" inch tranny cooler line. Everything worked smooth but the stall converter just doesn't work well with the tired 350 i already had in there. :haha:

Gonna have to wait to drive it after they get my motor done and i get it installed. Guess i have time to install the axles and 52/64's :D After i buy a set of 64"s of course

There isn't a bezel on these Randy. Just a shift boot and ring to hold the boot down. Unlike newer versions that had a bezel down there, this year just used a marked shifter knob to indicate how to shift into the different 4x4 modes.

I thought so. I remember my 87 had the 208 and it had the lighted shifter thing but wasn't sure about the older ones. Never paid attention to my other trucks. I know where 2hi 4hi and 4lo are anyhow so never even look

so then were does my extra plug go that looks just like his go? if i already have the one that is pluged in that comes the shifter and plugges into the top of the transfer case?

Cut it off and throw it away. That's where mine belongs. It apparently doesn't help **** so I don't need it :haha:

That I couldn't tell you, I have never seen that plug on my 80. I know that my plug to the transfer case is in place, and I get the dash light when I am in 4x4. I will look around my 80 and see if it is there, but in all the times I have been under there, I have never seen any plugs like that.

Those plugs came from newer trucks, so the tranny's in both of your trucks are newer than the truck itself is. It's the reverse light plug on hydralically controlled trans. Computer controlled ones have a bigger plug with more leads.
