What's this on the intake manifold?

That why the SMI sounds better...they replace everything and resurface the baseplate and add the dichromate finish...a real total rebuild...

A little background on SMI. Sean Murphy used to work for Jet when they were putting out great product. He went on his own and opened SMI. He builds beautiful carbs. When you call, he often answers the phone personally. Not sure on a Stage I, but I ordered a Stage II. He tunes the carb to your specs, including HP/CI, gear ratio, tire size, cam specs, altitude and use. When you get the carb, it is truly bolt-on ready. I've had mine 3+ yrs and it runs flawlessly. I would recommend the electric choke for simplicity, less problems w/ less linkage on the manifold coil. And the electric is easier to adjust. Sean does alot of extra work on these carbs, basically 'blueprinting' them, w/ reworked idle circuits, tweaked secondary diaphrams, proper rods and arms, and other trick details. I highly recommend him, can't say enough about his product. Call him directly w/ your questions and concerns, he knows these things in and out.:D

I did call them today...Sean was out and the guy who answered the phone wasn't really enthusiastic about answering questions...like "do you have the one with the automatic choke? The one with the coil"?....

However, I got a call in to Truck and Car Shop to find out if their engine harness has the leads for an automatic choke or not.

Call again tomorrow and talk w/ Sean....he's worth the wait.

I got the new choke in from Summitt....it was easy to install, but I did wonder about something....
the little armature in the carb that the coil in the choke moves has a "split"

does the choke coil "end" go into that or just simply behind the armature?
