whats your daily driver

it forced me to buy the import that everyone so much hates. I hate it too but today I got 64mpg

When I was commuting every day I tried a car that was fuel efficient but I hated it. And it made my 3 hours a day of commuting seem so much worse. Couldn't take it.

Manual switch? It's just a few minutes of work either way. :deal:

It's not a manual switch, but it is still only a few minutes to switch. On my defense, the controller came in yesterday and we were in a tornado warning for a while...

My point was that, whether you replace the controller, mod the controller, or install a bypass switch, it's just a few minutes of work no matter how you slice it.

Now, my GP relay came in last fall, and it's still sitting in a bag. But that rig is a long ways off from needing it, it's not a backup driver.

I drive 60 miles round trip for work. Drove my 86 M1009 on 37" tires for several years and racked up 55k miles on it. My mom passed away a few years ago and my parents had just bought a brand new Chevy Equinox shortly before that. My dad had no use for the vehicle so my wife and I bought it & she drives it. Then I started driving her 2010 Kia Forte and sold the M1009. The Kia now has 94k miles on it (we bought it brand new) gets around 29/30 mpg and only takes about $20 to fill it up

could of saved alot and buy a little civic like me! saves on gas and get around 32 mpg.

or a shietty prius and get 50mpg @ 80mph - 67mpg @ 60mph....

im hearing the dealership told me their sales guy is getting 80mpg on the 2016...

but im looking at the chevy bolt due out in december - 0 gas

drive prius daily at work and see none of them getting 50 mpg or more and I work for toyota.

Those of us getting 40MPG with $350 cars are laughing at smug prius owners. You might be getting slightly better mileage, but it takes a lot of miles to pay back the much larger capital cost of owning a newer car. If you were buying a new car it's not a bad choice, but buying new cars is generally a money-losing proposition.

And I'm highly skeptical of mileage numbers coming from salesmen. They are not known for honesty and full disclosure.

well the 2013 GMC Sierra Crew Cab Z92 was my DD... but @ $680 a month in gas ( @ 19mpg) it forced me to buy the import that everyone so much hates. I hate it too but today I got 64mpg..

$680 a month for 1 truck?? Even at $3 gal you'd have to drive 4300(!) miles a month. This doesn't sound right.

gas was $4/g

easy math
130 mile round trip / 19mpg = 6.8 gallons
local driving around was another 1.2 - 3 gallons
so lets say 8 gallons a day... 5 work days x 4 weeks so
8 x 20 = $160 x $4

$640 - sorry I was off a few bills.. LOL..

but im not calculating taking 2 kids to travel soccer games and MMA at different times on saturdays and sundays so a lot of miles on the weekends too

i basically stopped for gas every other day @ $75 fill up. I could go back and forth to work 2 days then to work but gas at work costs more so was easier to just do gas every other plus get coffee...

when gas was still high prius was going through
$80 gas, $252 car payment, $60 car insurance so $392 a month.

fyi i bought the car july 5, 2014... have 52k-ish miles already...

warranty was 3yr/36k - jived extended bumper to bumper down to $1200 now I have
4yr.. yup just 1 extra year BUT!!!!! 125k miles!!!!!! which I will use before the years...

so if you drive A LOT then yes... its worth that

Think Tundras and Chevy 4X4's cost around 45k and up how can people afford it?

Good math. I think that much driving is crazy, but I'm sure you'll get your money's worth out of the car at that rate. Huge savings compared to where you used to be. Well done.

(seriously, no sarcasm - that's saving a good chunk of a house payment every month :eek1:)

The overwhelming majority of new car owners cannot afford their vehicles. Hence car loans. :doah:

In fact, so many people are rolling from car loan to car loan that formerly ridiculous things like car leases are now mainstream.

Coming from the other end of the spectrum (my cars either have negligible depreciation or actually rise in value), it all looks ridiculous.

Debt. Serious serious debt. "equity" in ones home. Its how our economy took a gigantic shit a few years ago. Spend more than you can afford and let everyone else take the hit.

Massive payments also.

Hell a base tahoe is like 62k now! insanity at the highest of levels. Theres no possible way its worth that. Same thing with diesel prices.

Hey now, my 6.2 was totally worth the $1 that I paid for it. :deal: :haha:

Some one has to buy new vehicles.

Otherwise there wouldn't be any used vehicles.........

True, but that doesn't make them any less foolish for piddling away $60,000. Lots of people (at all price ranges) end up retiring their cars before they even get them paid off. So they don't really own the cars at any point in the process, all they do is take the depreciation hit. In a more sensible world filled with thinking people, the price gap between $1 cars and $60k cars would be narrowed considerably. A $30k truck is nearly as nice as a $60k truck, it's just a couple of model years older.

I may personally benefit from people throwing good cars away for $500, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing overall.
