Wheel bearing went out and tore up everything

Truck is back on the road. Everything from the u joint at the axle shafts out is brand new. Problem i'm getting now is that something is getting too hot. I drove about 5 miles and saw a little bit of smoke coming from the hub. What could this be? When i put the inner wheel bearing in i didnt use a race because my buddy helping me said he thought that the new spindle came with a race inside it. Is that right? Could it be brake fluid i spilled heating up? Because i replace the caliper and pads and rotor since i was already there and spilled a good bit of fluid on them when i was bleeding it out. Or could i have tightened the axle nuts too much? I hand tightened them but i didnt put too much force onto them. I pretty much got them like i would get a valve cover bolt.

Bearings need races! Course it sounds like you need new bearing again if you didn't install the race.

A new hub may have had races already installed. Did you actually pack the wheel bearings when you put them in? Did you also properly torque the bearings to seat them - then back off as the manual states? If those were done correctly, you may have some brake fluid burning or a sticking brake caliper.

Wait you left out a wheel bearing race?

Inner wheel bearing has to have a race.

I guess it depends on whether this is a "new" hub or a used one from the wrecking yard? But the reply above said the spindle maybe had a bearing inside which doesn't make any sense to me.

Meant the hub assembly not spindle. But the hub is new from orielys. Wheels bearings were packed. I didnt have a torque wrench but i tightened the axle nuts just a little over snug. The smoking stopped now. I havent seen anymore since yesterday. I'm hoping that the truck will be fine today but i'll find out. If not i have an extra set of bearings in the truck i was gonna put in on the other side

That makes more sense. But a new hub most likely didn't come with a race installed since the race and bearings are usually matched pairs. Should probably pull it apart and make sure it's right before it welds itself together. :thumb:

Yeah probably gonna do it tomorow just to be sure. I'd hate for the truck to be sitting again for a few days

Went by orielys to look at the same hub assembly housing that i got for my truck. Turns out it does come with inner and outer wheel bearing races. Glad i double checked though just to be on the safe side. Now to fix my other problems on the truck
