Good to hear. That's one of the things I was going to be searching for information on. I want it to be a good strong towing engine. Am I looking for any specific year range?

A 425 Buick nailhead has a 4-5/16" bore and 3.64" stroke!...
Their peak torque output is 465 ft/lbs @ 2800 rpm..
"Only" 340 HP though..
This is bone stock too!..freight train pullers!..

Also these guys will pull engine. rebuild engine. put engine back for 2700. Could just keep my original 305 and put money back into other areas.

It's just a rebuilt 1979 455ci oldsmobile engine.

just a fyi . trans will need to be a uni-bell or b.o.p pattern for the olds to bolt up . gm did specific b.o.p and some uni-bell with both gm and b.o.p
I have a 1/4" adapter plate that takes care of that.
But there are plenty of Cadillac th400s if someone wants to keep it old school.
You are probably familiar with this but when I saw it 20 years ago I was so excited I bought it on the spot.
I also got a great deal on it.
That had to be th most common combination back then. Road on a wood ski behind many of them.

well i am from the school of getting old and wishing i had so here is my pick of a engine .
454 BBC or the 8.1L vortec . . . there both power house animals .
my good friend had a truck just like mine but short bed & 454 big block . i had a built 400 sbc in mine . we took off red light racing one day and he got me off the line hard with the big block low end power but my 400 sbc got him on top end rpm pull .
so if you want GRUNT power go BIG or go home . if you like rpm then go high winding sbc stuff .

sad to say but i got 2 454 BBC with BIG oval port heads sitting here and a 8.1L vortec but i have not heard one run in over 15 years . . .
