White Elephant 01 8.1 burb.

Hey Mike and anyone else that has a stock 8.1
I took the cover off the engine and I saw these wires, looks like they were cut.
What are those for?20230102_100428.jpg

Not sure. Without going through the wiring schematic By the colors I’d guess the evap solenoid that’s closer to the front.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 8.1 with air injection. Early units had egr systems but beyond that it was just evap.

Wires leading to the front of the engine from that area would be for the evap solenoid, alternator, maf and cam sensor.

Though it will run without the maf and cam sensor it will have a check engine light on. Missing the cam signal will force an extended crank on startup as it won’t have the detail where the #1 cylinder is to throw fuel and spark at it.

Here's the summary of connectors I made during my 8.1L swap. Only thing in the front with a lot of wires is the throttle. Could be more than 1 thing cut, or it might not be for the engine at all. Is the MAF wiring intact? Are the transfer case and transmission harnesses still stock?

(Note, the left column is basically 03+ and the right column is 02-)

It does have an engine light on and a cam sensor code.
It does take a few revolutions to start

Wrong wire colors for CAM sensor. EVAP is pink and green.

They do kind of match the throttle wire colors. Any chance this vehicle was converted to cable throttle?

Is in the plans, I am waiting till I have the ability to program the computer. Never realized how annoying a check engine light is. All my previous and current computer rides have been Toyota's, I don't think Toyota's get a Check engine light never seen one.

Due for service. This pig used 4 qt in 5000 miles. Going a different way with the oil.

As opposed to 5w30 Mobil 1.
Might try 10w40 next time.

Ac was a little warm. Put my gauges on and was low on freon.
Removed gauges and the high side test port was hissing. Grab my shrader tool to give a quick tightness check. WTF there is a rubber plug thingy in there, NO SHRADER. Poke it a few times hissing stops, put caps on go eat lunch.
After lunch hook gauges up, nada, big fat zero psi. Ok I'll replace that service port. Nope the F'r ain't coming loose. Just ordered the whole dame line from rockauto.
GM's 'n Bean Counters can bite me. Even dodge knows better than that $^5t. How stupid can you be.

I did try to charge it since the cap is supposed to be the "primary" seal.

Thats old faithful after 1.5 12oz cans on a 3 pd system, blew the center out of brand new cap. I know it was empty when I started, vacuum for 30mins.

Do they plug the high side so that some one doesn’t hook the wal mart can to the high side and blow it up in their face? I can’t say as I have ever seen a port “plugged”

I probably would have been better off, to use the vatozone recharge can kit. would have never touched the high port and next spring add another can cause I bet you that high side port has been leaking slowly for years.
