i have a sm465 in my 86 k5, after 210,000 miles and 3 people learning how to drive on it, and plenty of soft core wheeling with daily driving the thing still pees out amber colored fluid when i change it every 60k. my 90 suburban had the 700r4 rebuilt at 165,000 with a shift kit and it didnt even get 30k on it with daily driving and mild off roading before the tranny started slipping.

). Wouldnt trade it for nothin'. Even put one in the wife's Burb for towing. Needs overdrive, but otherwise good driving.
