Why EFI owners don't Program their own PROM's?

By the looks of things going back threw my data loggs, my idle park map readings are averaging around 45kpa and idle in gear is averaging 55kpa. Near as i can tell.

Sorry, another quick question. Going back threw my data logs again, i noticed something strange. in the "MALFFLG2:42 EST (Electronic Spark Timing)" column, it has a "1" all the way down. In all the other MALFFLG columns, they are "0" all the way down. Is everyones like that or is my EST mudule bad? When i test for codes it has never come up with that code.

You can advance the distibutor a few degrees to see if additional advance helps the idle Kpa. Usually the distributor is set to ZERO, so try setting the distributor to +2 or maybe +4. I'm thinking the additional advance will improve the idle Kpa to 40. Also make sure the IAC minimum air is set for 10 ~ 15 steps when the engine is warmed up.

Open: Not using O2 sensor. ECM is running the engine purely on chip settings with no adjustment from O2 sensor.

Closed:Useing O2 sensor feedback.

I am going to mess around with it a little more just for fun, but previously, i could advance the distributor so far that it would start to run even worse. But, like i said, im going to mess around with it some more anyway. Maybe tomorrow. Mostly i want to set everything back to factory(ish)specs for when i start dicking around with the tune.

Dave your right of course. But yesterday on a stock engine, I had my idle timing so high when I dropped it 2 degrees I picked up 2.5 Kpa 2 more and I lost it! Found the sweet spot.

Idle is harder than a lot of tuning... all this spark stuff means nothing if you haven't got your fuel real close to 128. Without a cat? I like 120 in a big cam engine 122 stock. Little rich keeps things cool. Then when you play with spark you won't be knocking as bad. Then you can go back and try to get a perfect 128 all over. Just to give an idea what I do maybe it'll help and we can learn some more. :D

Here is a zip file of my latest data log. Its just me sitting in my driveway and occasionally putting it in gear and occasionally reveing it up a little. If you notice, the IAC steps are 8 from block 35-538. That just seems crazy to me!

IAC steps of about 8 look good to me!

I looked at your data log. I noticed the TPS is showing - negative numbers, whats up with that?

The BLM's are super rich mostly 105, 128 is ideal +/- 2 or 126 ~ 130. You've got work to do!:doah:

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Lost since page 3.
Bought a USB cable from OBD Diagnostics and I'm pretty sure I have everything downloaded. Laptop in truck, opened Tunerpro and this is what I see

Even if it looked like the instructions posted here i still don't know what to do with Tunerpro. Do I just plug in, drive and log data?
After reading through this thread, especially post #68, I'm completely lost and in over my head and I don't want to be screwing with this thing every day. The first post makes it seem like you're a fool if you don't do this. Well I'm a complete fool and am totally lost.

I thought that less then 128 was lean? They it looks to me, being very un savy in the ways of tbi computer logic, The computer sees the map running low on vacuum and adds fuel because thats what it thinks is right. Then, the o2 is reading way rich cause the comp is actually over fueling. So, as a way of correcting itself the comp drops the INT and BLM numbers to lean it back out some to make the o2 happy.

I dont know why the tps shows negative on that chart. On the winaldl dash board, it always shows up as a voltage reading around .54ish or maybe a little higher sometimes. I took screen shots somewhere. I'll see if i can find them.

I never intended for anyone to feel like they are a fool.:smile1: Learning to do something automotive, that's not in service manual will test someone patience!

I have not posted a tutorial on how to data log. I had every good intention to make a tutorial on how to data log. TunerPro RT has changed the software since I originally posted the start of this tread. TunerPro RT is now up to Version 5. I will try to help out with data logging with TunerPro RT V5.

The screen shot posted is an older TunerPro Version 4, I think. By the way, excellent work on getting a screen shot posted in your post.:smile1:

To get the USB cable to log, the USB driver needs to be installed into the Laptop.

Download the latest TunerPro RT V5. The TunerPro RT V5 files will install in "My Documents", not "Program Files". Open the .xdf and .bin files.

I attached .zip file which is a Data Stream .adx for the data logging. The Data Stream is for data logging. Unzip the the .adx file and open the Super 42 .adx file from the Acquisitions option on the tool bar of TunerPro V5. The open the dash. If everything works, the dash screen shot I posted should appear.

Let me know how it goes. I'm here to help.

So I need to download TunerPro RT and pay $39. That's OK, I don't mind paying for someones hard work.

USB drivers were installed on the laptop @ Com6. Should I try to move them to Com4?

Tried to unzip that file but windows says "it cannot open that file, do i want to search the web to find the file that created it?"

TunerRT V5 can be downloaded for free. I think it would be fair to pay for TunerPro RT V5 after you figure out how to get it to work for you.

Send me a PM with your email, I'll attach the super 42 .adx to an email back to you.

I don't know what to say about the com port settings.
