Wide vs Skinny tires again!! What you all think?

Thats the kind of mud i like to play in, stuck or not........thats just what we do to amuse ourselves up here.....so like i said, whats your setup being i cant see it for some reason lol

OK!! now thats stuck HAHAHAHA so what ya running under that to push that much mud up past bumper before you stopped!!

right now just a healthy injected 350 and 38.5x15 boggers. i'm saving up for some 39.5x18'' boggers. I still have a lot more engine work to do as well, I'm power hungry

Ive had mine to the frame in mud with open diffs and could still move somehow but thats impressive pics

My 350 tbi is still stock (goodwrench) replaced before i got ahold of it, its not lacking power with the mts i have now but i think that will change when the boggers come into play........gears are in order first

Thanks! I always have fun out there. I hate to say this on CK5, but from what i have seen work best in that kind of mud is the lightweight rigs like an s10 or Toyota with a fullsize Chevy drive train stuffed underneath them. alum heads and goodies like that are a bonus too, anything to keep weight down

yeah, I still would like to change my gears too. I am running 4.10's and would prefer a bit higher. if you do get those 35x16 you will probably be able to spin them good with the right gears.. remember to bring some spare shafts for that D44 you plan on putting in, You will most likely need them

I love a good stuck pic anyday! have a few of my own but on crappy cell phone...those 38.5x14.5x15 were the ones i was gonna get but had some folks talk me out of it which is prob better since i would have a cool looking rig that just fell on its face when it had to perform.....

Here is another one then! :D This was taken years ago, it was a guy My Dad used to work with, long before i started wheeling.

You can always build the rig up over the years to live up to the tires! but your right there is a point of too big too fast, I wheel with a certain someone that did that and they spend most the day fixing their trail rig. its pretty annoying when it takes you all day to go 1 k down a trail

Wide asses don't "fall in" like the skinny ones do?? kinda like ruts and tires? does that work for you or is it a swing and a miss?

Works perfectly!! hence the reason I'm running 15/50 wide 38's! :D

WOW......just getting your rig that stuck has bragging rights only upped by the one who can back out of it which has been done......or make it through....im debating if spending the cash on beefing my 350 or just swapping in a good ol 454 and some 4.56 or 4.88 gears and 38s

Whichever you choose...pick a wide wheel.

Im runnin 37 12.50s on a 15x12 wheel, it may only be a 12.50 but the wider wheel helped balloon it out. Giving it the illusion that it is actually wider than it is, helps out a bit with flotation as well.

I love big blocks, but for the amount money you spend to buy a big block much less improve it a bit (cam intake etc) you could put that towards the small block. Which for less money could make close to the same power, AND weigh less.

Im stuck with the 15x10s until i order new rims for the 8 bolt axles......then if they 14.50 i might go 12 wide

Damn i wish we had trails even half that somewhere around here.......but none in like a 4 state radius.....location, location, location.......

the wider the rim, the more chance of the tires popping of the bead. i have q78 swampers on stock 16" x 7" wide wheels and i also have a set of 39.5 swampers on 15"x8" wheels.

if you think you have enough power with a stock 350 with headers and an intake, your mistaken. go to an actual mud bog and check out all the different trucks and tire combinations.

Theres just a couple mud drags a year i enter in a year with no chance of winning since im stuck in superstock because of size. not that it bothers me because its still fun but i wish they ran a distance pit, and yes i am way underpowered to be drag racing boggers regardless of size lol

I have ran both wide and skinny tires before. and am starting to preferr the skinnys for the kind of mud around here. Wide or skinny if you dont have enough power its not going to make that much difference IMO

Yep, I'm hurting pretty bad for some more Jam, but i would say a well built 350 is ideal for most trail use.... because the lighter you are the less you sink, and it really, really, really sucks when you have to leave your rig out on the trail overnight waiting for more friends to come out with more winches:D. Dont get me wrong, I would loooove to have a nice nasty BBC under the hood
