Wilson's 1986 k5 blazer build

I've actually had a few "3970010" blocks, all were 350's , one was a 4 bolt, and 3 were 2 bolt main engines.
This is from nastyz28.com

1968 3970010 327 - - 2. A
1969-79 3970010 350 185 370 2 or 4 car, truck, Vette

So 69-79 2 or 4 bolt 350's and apparently a 68 327 :dunno: didn't know that one :D

Just sold a 010 350 that was a 4 bolt main. I realize it's not for sure?
Time to pull the pan off and check.

Oil pan is not on there. Is there another number on the bottom that will verify it for sure?

Super easy man... just count the bolts holding the main bearing caps on.
Two bolts it a two bolt main 4 bolts it's a 4 bolt main.
Honestly it really doesn't matter as long as it runs good.

Update, have the motor nearly taken out. All that is left is to undo the motor from motor mounts and she is out! I've done everything myself so far except turn the harmonic balancer so I could get flexplate bolts off. I am very proud to do this much alone. Sunday will be out with the old and in with the new. I may even get it running Sunday! Only thing I had trouble with was the top bolt on the passenger side of the tranny where it bolts on to the motor. Spent an hour trying to reach up and grab it until I saw if I went under the hood I had easy access :haha:

You need a ~ 3' extension and a swivel (impact) socket to make those bell housing bolts simple.

Also, automatics use flexplates, not flywheels, just a small nitpick.

Thirdly, what do you mean by turn the distributor?

Fixed it for ya:waytogo: lol sorry for my ignorance. Yeah My brother has the impact gun and air compressor at his house and I wanted everything ready for Sunday so maybe there we would be a shot at getting it running. I will need guidance on adjusting carb, setting the timing, and adjusting the (lifters?) under the valve covers. Still needing to see if I can make the dipstick and manifold issue work also

You don't need an impact to use the 3' extension and swivel socket (it just makes it quicker). It's just that an impact swivel socket is a much better tool than a chrome u-joint socket.

Good note for my next motor lol. Well I have an extra hole in my intake and I believe it is for a water outlet but I dont know what hose would connect there. Would just plugging it be a bad idea?

Just an fyi they make a tool to grab flexplate teeth so you can spin and hold to get the cnverter bolts out so you dont need to mess with the harmonic balancer to turn crank.

Bolts are already out, but I will look into that next time I pull the motor. I will post a pic of the empty hole and see what you guys think I should do there

Hmm seems like my brother has one, I will def be interested in one! Just got my own air compressor so I am stoked not to have to wait for him to do stuff that requires impact tools!!!

I have a Lisle one that is just a flat bar with two prongs that lock onto the ring gear instead of into it. Works pretty well. Can't find a link though.

Good news and bad news today. Good news I pulled the motor out all by myself! Well other than my dad watching and helping lift it up. Bad news, I smelt the tranny fluid and it definitely smells burnt. The tranny never shifted crisply or good at all. If I was giving it a lot of gas it would make a weird noise at shift. I am thinking I need another tranny. What should you guys do to make sure I dont just need to service the tranny?

Another update. Almost everything is on the motor, except the a/c bracket, flexplate, and 4 bolts for the oil pan. I went ahead and got headers to fix my dipstick problem, got some chrome things:rolleyes:, and we are nearly good to go. I need to learn how to adjust the valves though. Other than me probably having to yank the tranny out, I am nearly there to having everything back in. Anyone recommend a tranny repair shop/person in the DFW area?

Update after a fairly long break. Motor is still out waiting for new one to be dropped in. Just dropped the tranny last weekend along with transfer case. I will be using your guy teck. I guess I will be putting tranny back in myself as money is super tight right now (school debt). Hopefully I can go back to my dad's this weekend or next and drop the tranny off. After that, It shouldn't be much longer to get it running
