WL: 1990 K5 (California to Nebraska on 38" rubber. (WARNING: Lots of Pics))

I'll have to look closer, but it has a newer interior, center bolt valve covers, and a serpentine setup.

I'm guessing tub swap on a newer rig.

So since your build is Cali to Nebraska, why don't you go from Nebraska to Michigan in a couple weeks?

Between it and a weak 350 TBI, no, it wouldn't be great. That doesn't bother me one bit at all. I can drive thirty minutes and be on the Loup river if I want to play in sand. If I'm leaving the state, I'm heading for rocks.

Martin

I can understand that, your rig is better setup for rocks.

I don't like rocks because I have to go too slow! :D

Seriously though, how much sand is on that River? Are there are large dunes or is is mostly flat river bottom type stuff?

There is more sand West of me than you could imagine, but nobody goes driving in it.

Flat river bottom.

That's likely part of why you don't like it. When there is tall steep dunes that many people can't even climb it makes it a lot more fun. You should come try it some time.

Because they aren't allowed or because it's flat and not much fun?

Because it is thousands of acres of ranch land. I think you underestimate just how little power this has. It would be about as much fun as a wet blanket.

I will go to the sand one day but most likely south not north.

It probably has about as much as my old SB did before I swapped the heads, lucky to have 200 hp? When I took the old heads off to swap them and the cam I found someone rebuilt it with crap rods and the quench was .070"! Compression was less like 7.5:1 or something stupid. I could barely make it up test hill, only if I got a big run at it, in 4WD, with very low tire pressure, and I had to downshift toward the top or the engine would bog down and I would stall out. If I did all that, then, and only then, could I make it. :doah: Although I still had fun because it was challenge just to make it. But it did make you want more power really bad, I determined about 3x the power makes it way more fun.
