You are doing WHAT to a 1968 SAAB?

Really cool project. Such a short description makes it look like you did it as fast as guys build vehicles on Spike TV:haha:

If this is less work than you've got into your miata, we've got different definitions of "big project" :haha:

what color is it going to be in the end??

I knew for sure a month ago. Now I'm waffling.

I was going with Mustang Grabber Blue. I used this car for my inspiration. Apparently SAAB had this throwback concept car built before they closed shop.

As a budget track car I can't handle the cost of putting real vintage Minilites on it so I will have to go with a knockoff wheel. These do have the look I want and come in Miata-friendly sizes and offset.

As the firewall moved back 12" the placement of seats worked out great-bakcrest is even with the back edge of the door but the back seat was lost. This wasn't a concern. This cutaway shows why the seats were mounted as high as they are.

Does it have a name? :dunno:

People have referred to it as SAABata as in SAAB - Miata. I don't really like it though. I did think of putting a badge on the trunk that said SX-5 as a nod to the Miata MX-5 model designator but subbing the Mazda M with the SAAB S and letting it go at that.

Or I'll just leave it clean and let everyone wonder what just smoked past them.

One interesting tidbit. I initially thought it would be fine in the slower sections of the track but be a brick on the straights. Come to find out that the drag coefficient is only .32. Pretty dang good for 1968.

Its a Mazda powered Saab... So, it's a "MA'AB"... :D

Saabata, sounds like a mexcican-lobotomy....

Yeah, none of them really sound good. Oh well. Names are for people. And pets.

Tell that to Herbie, or Lightning McQueen. :whistle: Saita {sy-ata}

Ya, they're all awful names.

Looking good! Love the underdog car build, nice change. Reminds me of someone who built a VW fastback baja.

I love the look of minilites :waytogo:

More done tonight.

Started on the worst door. I've been told that blocking something that size is very difficult. I took that as a challenge. I wish I had a longer long board. Mine's only about 15".
