$158 later. Sigh.

I think I'm done. I'm just gonna drink beer for the rest of the night.

I'll explain further when I get home to the computer and off my phone.
JOE, JOE! Before you get too hammered, and before you start thinking about all the extra stuff you got to do now, you really need to do this for me.

Get up from the computer, walk outside. Way out in the yard. Just stand there, nothing close by........

Anybody shoot at you, or are you worried someone is going to?

Look down the road, see any trashpiles or cars parked next to the curb. You got any problem driving by them? Any worries they might explode as you do?

Now, look around, grin, go back and look at the first post in this thread, and relax.

Anybody that might want you dead is thousands of miles away, and have their own troubles, and you are so much farther along now with the truck than that first post its pitiful, so how bad can it be??

Accomplished pretty much nothing except flipping the DIY brackets around and almost killing myself. Fordum pretty much called it...To take the tension off the springs and flip the brackets around, I used my floor jack and a big 8x8 block of wood under the bumper. I was gettin after it using a 9/16" wrench with a cheater. Was leaning on it so hard that the jack was actually rolling on the ground. :O The block of wood was stable as a rock, no worries there. The concrete right there is very smooth, not much rolling resistance for even the tiny wheels on the jack. And of course, I had the truck in neutral. I didn't realize what was going on till I heard the handle of the jack hit the bumper of the truck. After that, I was under the truck one instant, and the next thing I remember was being 10' behind the truck wondering how I got there. I got out fast enough to turn around and see the springs and the diy bracket meet face to face. I would have been fine even if I hadn't made it out from under the truck....it only fell about 6". Still scared the hell out of me. Jack stands jack stands jack stands. :eek1:

Anyways, onto the pictures-

This is what I found on the right rear wheel cylinder. Was already broken-

I got the left front bleeder out ok. The other 2 broke off. Then I broke off a screw extractor in the one shown above, and a drill bit as well as a second screw extractor in the right front. I wanted to cry. So now I have two new wheel cylinders and two new calipers waiting to be installed tomorrow. :doah:

And just for shiits, a video of me and Bo playin around. He sounds pissed off and like he's really trying to eat me, but that's how he plays. Looks brutal, but he loves it. Scares the hell out of people that don't know how he is. Like some kinda monster. :o NSFW due to some cussing on my part. ;)

Dude...

That was AWESOME. Really put things into perspective. Gotta have a beer with you one day my friend. You're in Florida right? How far from Hinesville, Georgia?

Hey Joe,
Hate to ask, but I have my 82 K30,(non-dually), and I was wondering what those springs and shackle flip cost. Just a "WAG" would be cool, if you don't mind.(that is a 6" lift correct?)

Thanks,
Deven

That is an awesome statement right there! That is the best reply I've seen on CK5! Love it!
Your the man Fordum!

damn Joe. nice dog.

i also have a big yellow dog named Bo. (for bocephus lol).
sucks bout the brake set back. but thats the fun of having a build right. is all the little pain in the asses that pop up?

Just remember, if it was easy, even the furd guys could do it!...:whistle::pimp:

Awesome truck...IMO, just slow down a notch and enjoy it a bit more.

Just an outside observer's opinion...:waytogo:

I think if I had to spend money on rear drum brake parts, they would go in the scrap metal pile! Convert that puppy to rear disk...
that truck is bitchin'

Last time I bought wheel cylinders they were 8 bucks a piece at Napa...........

Well, I don't think I am as far away from you as possible and still be in Fl., but its close.

Mapquest says about 320 miles, or 5 hours. Of course, thats not with me driving......:D

I am more or less in Panama City. Don't get up your way very often. I sometimes make it to Atlanta, but not your way.

As for the pep talk, I told the same thing to my nephew after he got back from the sandbox.
While he was there, he took fire several times, and was blown out of the "turret" of his Hummer when it ran over an antipersonnel mine.

He was at my farm, and griping about how bad he had it because it looked like he was going to have to put a new engine in his Jeep, and he has been looking forward to driving it around here.

I was standing behind him, and I whacked him on top of the head with my cap.
When he turned around, I asked him how many time had he been shot at this week.
Plus, how many time had he been blown up lately?

He thought about it and realized that the Jeep motor was small potatoes compared to active combat.

Plus, the only thing wrong with his engine, after we got it away from the idiot shop, was the converter.
The honeycomb had cracked and a chunk had lodged in the output.

BTW, hate to say this, but the broken cylinders were probably a good thing.
Given the size tires, and other changes, you want the brakes to be dependable.
And there is no telling about pitting in the cylinders.
Don't forget to price a new master. Odds are you will damage the seals in the one you have when you start bleeding them.

That's $16 that could go toward calipers instead! :D

Sometimes the smallest excuse is all you need to upgrade your ride...

I vote you as the sites resident preacher/philosopher. :waytogo::bow:

I have a spare set off a 79, PM with your address and i'll put a set of calipers in the mail tomorrow. I know I said it before but your service means alot and I thank you and your brothers in arms every chance I get. If you go discs, the calipers and the freight to get them to your front door is on me :thumb:

Thanks again and God bless :smile1:
