i have had my brother do it. twice. he lays on his back. head facing the front of the truck. pulls the trans up onto his legs ntil he can get the pan setting on his toes. then grabs it by the bellhousing and bench presses that sucker in there. then i thread the bolts in:D

Was that on a truck with 8-9" lift and 39" tires?

nope

8" and 42" tires. he has short arms too.

Hmmm.... sounds like a similar setup to mine, that might actually work then. I was layin under there alittle while ago pondering the situation. I think I can manage the bench press part without much trouble, I'm a big dude- 6'1", 255lbs....but it's gonna hurt in 110* heat. I sweat just like a fat white guy should. :haha:

I think I can get the trans stuck to the motor and the mount sitting on the crossmember fairly quickly, so I don't have to wait there trying to hold the trans up till someone gets a bolt or two started. Now I gotta find someone to come help me out. Anyone here within driving distance of Hinesville, GA? :D

You could use two of the 5K rated white ratchet straps I bet you have floating around somewhere, slung from framerail to framerail and under the trans and lift it most of the way up from there.

Dude, you are in the ARMY.
Surely you know some special forces guys, or a drill Sergent who has someone their sh*t list and wants to punish them?

Just tell one of the SF guys that you don't think that they are man enough to press that thing back in.

They love a challenge........

If my dad was able to single handedly pull off a trans swap in the driveway without a jack then you can do it easily. He did it on a 90 K5 with a 4" lift and 33's so it doesnt compare to yours in size BUT my dad is 6'3 and only weighed 165 at the time. You can do it :thumb:

I have found that some much longer bell housing bolts (2 or 4 ) with the heads cut off, act as really good alignment pins, for the quick jam that'll need done.

Did 95% of it by myself. Some retard strength, a rickety wooden step stool, a bunch of 2x4 blocks and a tiny scissor jack got the trans up high enough. I was dead set on doing it all myself, but had to call a buddy to help with the final push onto the motor. For the 205, I laid underneath the truck with the 205 on my chest, bench pressed it up high enough for my buddy to guide it into place. :haha::eek1:

Still have some work to do to finish it up... flex plate bolts, finish the bell housing bolts, dipstick, 4 bolts left on the 205, the strut from the 205 to the bell housing, exhaust/o2 sensor, starter, cooler lines, modulator, driveshafts, finish installing/wiring the Hurst shifter and finish wiring/install the trans temp gauge and sender. Ran out of daylight today. Should be ready for the first test drive by saturday night/sunday morning. Wish me luck! :pimp:

Don't know how I missed this thread but I just went through 45 pages of coolness. And the dually is Bdass. I seen pics before but never put the two together.

Can't wait to wee how the trans works out

You got a hole in your trans pan. :D (in the exact same spot I put mine)

Good job getting the tranny in, glad you didn't get hurt doing it.

It's all done now, so it's either going to work or it's not. I have faith in you. Look forward to it running again for you.

It's alive! :woot:

Well, almost alive. Gotta hook up the Hurst shifter, top off the 205 and re-install the drive shafts and it's ready for a test drive. Was able to start it today for the first time in 3 months. The Odyssey PC1750 battery didn't even snort, took a minute or so of cranking before it fired. Took 3 gallons of ATF to fill up the trans. Got a small leak were the dipstick enters the transmission. What a hokey design that is...I couldn't figure out why the previous owner had a big glob of RTV on there, now I know. With the driveshafts disconnected and the engine running, I could turn the shift lever on the trans by hand and the yokes on the 205 would spin. Good sign I guess.

I was on a roll then this happened-

Stupid rain. That puddle took less than ten minutes to form. It was ~100* today....Georgia sucks. :flipoff1:

good job on the install...no way I could lift that sucker by myself

lower fluid level by draining the pan. = easy for you with plug now.

---------------------------------------

if oring seal on dipstick tube to case then do this fix.

remove tube and brake clean off all oil from both area's .

reinstall and rtv around the whole tube to tranny case. push it all in the area with your finger. then let cure for a good long time. prefer 24 hrs for best results.

refill tranny and check for leaks.

------------------------------

if big rubber seal on dipstick tube remove and dry off all parts. tiny bit of rtv on outside of seal . install to tranny. then tiny bit oil on tube and install in seal/tranny. let dry and refill.

----------------------------------

i have fixed a lot of them on th350 and th400 this way with good old black rtv and works perfectly.

Does anyone have a 1lb of C4 I can use to blow up this godamn money sucking piece of sh!!t? :flipoff1::flipoff1::flipoff1::flipoff1::flipoff1::flipoff1:

Got trans all hooked back up and driveable. First drive around the block was fine. Seemed to shift softer than I remember though. Went for a longer 30-45 minute drive and some problems showed up. WOT throttle it shifts normal. But just cruising at 50+mph I can hear a whinning noise and it seems like it hunts/slips- engine rpm rises and falls in tune with the pitch of the whining noise. To my ears, the whining sounds like frictions aren't engaged all the way and slipping. At 50mph, if I mash the pedal, it downshifts ok, but when back to part throttle and just cruising, the whining/slipping/hunting thing returns. Also, when I was pulling into the parking place after the long drive, put it into reverse to re-position, and it started shuddering. Ugh. I don't want to do this again....

That was all with the shifter in drive. Tried manual 1st and 2nd a bit ago and now it shudders and clunks no matter where the shifter is. I don't even want to look at that pill of ****.

Did you remember to fill the torque converter before installing it?
I'm just asking because I know a guy who forgot to do that once.
