Also...I love my lincoln welder. I'll never, ever own a miller product. Years of using both and I prefer the lincoln machines, by a mile.

Except for the godamn gun they put on my powermig 200. I hate THAT thing with a passion. Big ole fat, heavy, huge, long, impossible to maneuver in tight space, impossible to see around poor design...like something that should be on a 300amp+ machine, not a 200amp one. Feels like I'm holding onto a sledge hammer handle. One day when I get rich, I'm going to get one of the super bling Bernard mig guns with a swiveling neck.

Well, Miller and Bernard are both ITW companies...:D I injection mold components for both.

Interesting I suppose, but totally irrelevant to the end user.

There is absolutely no comparison between miller/lincoln/esab/hobart etc and Bernard as far as quality and comfort of use of the individual MIG guns. Bernard is just better stuff, period. Like Metabo grinders being better than DeWalt grinders by a huge margin.

Much better-

Nice carpet! I always leak something onto mine and its no better than the floor, so I throw it away. :doah:

Done. Engine mounts/crossmember complete. Soooo glad thats behind me. I even had a chance to clean up the shop today, and do some quick and dirty upgrades to Norcal69's engine hoist. I couldn't walk away from it before if it had weight on it, or it would tip over. It was me against gravity more than once with that thing. Almost blew a gasket in my face and legs trying to stop the 8.1 from crashing to the ground. It works as intended now.

Trans crossmember next I think.

Nope. I didnt need to. He knows its a piece of sh!t. Sent him pics when I was done. His reply?

And I quote- "lol f*ck yeah. Nice work. It's awesome that the old girl got a facelift"

Oh. I didn't think he would be to worried, just wondering how surprised he was going to be.

Brainstorming crossmember designs. After talkin with the ruff stuff guys, the bushing will be tucked in closer to the framerails, the same width apart as the motor mounts. Otherwise, still thinkin' about the best way to connect it all.

If ya ever wondered what a 42° CV from High Angle Driveline looked like, there ya go. That damn thing is HUGE. Less than a 1/4" away from the transmission pan, even after clearanceing. lol

I think I may have found the headers I'm going with.

Based on the dimensions listed on the website, I pulled some measurements, and I think these will almost bolt on. If they wouldn't bolt on, it wouldn't take much work to to make them fit. Passenger side will bolt on 100%, drivers side too close to tell without having it in hand. That's good, I can work with that. :)

Another trip to Ruff Stuff for more bushings and sleeves, and I did something I said I wouldn't do, I actually bought a couple of tabs, instead of making them myself. :eek1:

Also picked up a couple sets of shock eye bushings for my bilstiens that I had ordered a couple days ago. That's the energy suspension part number for bushings that fit Bilstien shocks with a 1/2" bolt + 5/8" OD sleeve. Hourglass style bushing. 1 1/8" OD, 5/8" ID

9.8107G

If I remember correctly, swap the G with an R for red bushings.

Way better day for a road trip picking up stuff than working outside. It's just too damn hot outside to play and enjoy it, while working on the rig.

Agreed. Waaaay to damn hot today. :eek1:

I didn't go out there and start wrenchin till about 5pm. Just now called it a night. Got the transmission cross-member about 80% done, enough to remove all the jacks and ratchet straps and finally set the drivetrain down in the new mounts. I would have finished it, but I ran out of cut off wheels. :doah:

It's sucks to go in the shop and see a damn Hypertherm Powermax 900 plasma cutter sitting there that I can't use. :|

Good work!
Joe, I might be able to help you out with a compressor. My old 60 gal. Craftsman was switched out for my new Quincy a year + ago. It sat on the side of the house till one of my friends needed it. I figured he could use it till it blew up and I'd use it for a smoker after. I'm 99% sure the thing is still kicking as I did a home brew head gasket on it about 4 years ago that I thought would fail by now.

He just switched it out for the same Quincy I have and it's just sitting at his shop. I'll make a call this morning to see if it's still alive. If it is, you can go pick it up today if you want from the Hwy 70 industrial complex just off the freeway. I won't be around as I'm down in Sac on a siding job, but it's all yours if you want it.
