Rene' coined the term, so I'll go with it!

I've started doing some work to the Fatboy starting today...got to get it up to snuff for a long distance ride. I enjoy riding more when I can get a few miles in, even aOy weekend trip, or at least a long afternoon. A back and forth to work trip don't do much for me....I'm doing a basic 40,000mi. checklist of things, and getting some new tires and battery. I would really like to throw a paint job on it, but we'll see what time has in store for me about getting that done. I want to move the rear turn signals and get some bigger bags on the fender too.

Here is its present state:

So I have plans of a 5000mi trip in August/Sept. I was going to visit Rene' in Vancouver, but he's uprooting to Edmonton, so I'll be rerouting my trip up to Edm, then down to Moab for BB12, then back to MI. This trip home I can take the high mountain passes across CO.

I'll leave MI, head up I-94 across the top of the US, cutting into Canada at some point...so you Canadians, what roads are good provincial hwy's that I can make decent time on, and have access to amenities as needed. They don't need to be interstate hwy 4 lane, decent 2 lane would be fine. I need to put down 4-500 mi a day on a good day. That will take me 8-10 hours to do, if my back holds up.

I can't get a Mapquest to copy and paste...anybody know how I can put up a map of my route????

Scotts, MI....Edmonton, AB...Moab, UT....Rock Rapids, IA....Scotts, MI. is the basic route....adjustments can be made.

Looking to meet a few other CK5'ers along the way too. How many close to Edmonton, for a meet and greet?
Anyone along the way I can stop and have a refreshment with?

Not sure on your route down to BB, but I am sure if you come down along I15 we may be able to get the Utah group together for a meet.

I planned on coming down I-15, probably stopping in Erics area...

Yah and I am going to send you a couple of modded routes where you are not on oh so boring I15 around me just need to make sure some of the roads are decent

This is cool! Can`t wait to read more.
You know were I live man...eat,drink,sleep what ever you like.:D

When Rene finds out were he`s gonna end up there is some nice secondary hwys from Edmonton to Calgary and the border.
All of the roads in Alberta are in good shape. HWY 21 might be nice for you...check it out.

A meet and greet would be cool too...but for me it always seems that I miss out because of work. :dunno:

I like your map...sweet route.

Yup, your route plan looks like you'd be able to run across Bowtie85 and DK5 in Sask. too.

As for Canadian highways/roads...if it has a hwy # you're good to go. You're not gonna get surprised with a gravel road.

Excellent Max...I'll be looking you up along the way, and may take you up on a nights stay! Much obliged:bow:

that's cool Rene'...funny thing on my Maine trip a couple years ago, I really wanted to ride highway 2 on the east coast, so as soon as we cross into Maine, they had it torn up for about 5 mi. to the point of a normal car would have had trouble going through, and no detour signs posted before hand....that kinda sucked....Gravel roads don't bring the fun to a motorcycle ride.

Another pic of the scoot:

Lookin sharp Dave. Bags are necessary on a long trip, but the bike looks a lot better without them. :waytogo:

I'm going to try to move my turn signals back and down on the fender, so I can run a hard bag....those little bags are as big as will fit with the fatboy fender/turn signal setup. Hard bags will be so nice.
I have a big roll bag I put behind me for back support, and a sissybar/rack bag I use too for the long trips!

I don`t think I would paint it before your trip. You will get it all chiped up.
It looks good the way it is. :dunno:

You are welcome to stay at our place anytime man...we got lots of room. :thumb:

Its a rider Max...actually paint will depend on how much I need to put into the hardbag set, and mounting....they don't give them things away, like every other m/c part out there.
And thanks again for the offer of hospitality.

I guess I'll need a passport...isnt there a canada/mexico passport that is less hassle/expense to get than an overseas passport....I really don't EVER see myself going overseas willingly, so a canada passport will do.

thats an american thing if anything. Here a Passport is a Passport is a Passport. Tenative date for Edmonton? want to make sure I'm not on shift.

Leave MI on Thur. 8/23,
Arrival in Edmonton 8/27 or 8/28 depending on weather/visits/stops along the way.
Leave AB 9/2, arrival in Moab for BB12 on 9/6.
