Zimmer's Fatboy power tour. 6/1/15...Now touring NC

I'm thinking not, as it is an etching primer, and that usually includes a base (acid) in the mix...maybe Paul can clarify this?

I have used some of the zinc green on the tins where I went to metal, usually comes off again when I wetsand the next layer of primer though...I will scuff the green off before I shoot the sealer on. They suggest their primer/sealer is wicked strong for adhesion, and I've been more than happy with the results of their products so far on my test pieces....of course those are plastic not metal.

so you can't put this HOK over a urethane primer? it HAS to be an epoxy? if so, that's retarded...

Their base's can be used over an Acrylic Urethane sealer, they offer that product as well...but not having the experience to go with it on my own, I did as they recommended and am happy with the results so far.
He didn't seem to have any problem with the underlying Nason acrylic primer coats for blocking the pieces, only the Nason sealer...

than zinc chromate would not be an issue, as it's under a urethane primer...

and yes, zinc chromate is an acid reduction product..

Well, there has to be some left on my metal parts somewhere...under the gray primer, even a few spots I'll have to scuff before putting the sealer on.
Tomorrow hope to start on the tins and bags.

booth is clean, parts are cleaned and mounted for painting, gotta get some disposable lids and thinner for clean up and I'm shootin' tonight.

Lol, that picnic table has been a staple in your build threads for some time now. :thumb:

Can't wait to see some color. :woot:

Norcal, yes it does come in handy for many things....a roll around bench is awesome.

Max, week and a half buddy!

The primer/Silver base and intercoat clear on last night...today I'm headed out for decals and striping.
so far so good.

holy crap, 5 hours on stripe design, execution, and taping/masking of parts...no paint sprayed today (yet...I'm working tonight, maybe when I get home I'll shoot the black stripes)
Did get the tank decals put on though.

sweet, stoked to see.. :D

what your doing is the kinda stuff i absolutely LOVED doing at the body shop.... cool base mask jobs...

I think it will be cool if I can keep from making mistakes....

first mistake...using yellow 3M tape...left a bit of a line in the intercoat clear...had to wet 600 in quite a few places....going tomorrow AM for some green.

second mistake...using non automotive masking paper...this let the solvent get through and into the intercoat clear also...luckily this stuff dries real quick so it didn't do any damage that the wet 600 wouldn't take care of, but a mistake that I should have known better than make.

third mistake...not taping well enough...got a small spot of black on the silver striped area, and tried to wet 600 it out, and went through, now I gotta hit that stripe with some silver and intercoat again...another delay, but now is the time to fix it.

The black is looking good where I didn't fok it up...I put some copper pearl in it, and it looked real good after the first coat, but wasn't covering the silver good enough, by the second coat it lost a lot of the copper pearl look, maybe it will come back in the sunlight?

This sucked, I put down 1 stripe where I wanted it, then taped on either side of it, then pulled the center tape to paint the stripe...time consuming for sure:

Here's the bad:

fixed the spot repair last night...just barely had enough of the Orion Silver base left for the repair...

prepped, cleaned the shop, retaped for the Tangerine, then started shooting at 10:30am,,,just finished.

4 coats of Kandy tangerine with Kandy concentrate added (equals ~8 coats) then 4 coats of Show Klear...enough to do some wet sanding and buffing later on...for now its going together...a few nibs here and there, but I'm pretty happy with it as is.

This pic shows the amount of orange peel in the paint...this is about the worst...some spots are really clear.

Wow, thanks for the interest guys...the comps are much appreciated.

This project has made me its bitch for a few weeks now, glad the paintwork is done.

When I started sanding on the tanks, I just thought, "don't fok this up"

I think I can say my expectation was met!
