‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Youtube videos.

Check this out:

New floats and spring loaded needle seats fixed it. :woot:

Upon further inspection the old springs were misshaped and were not functioning properly. They were pushing the needle closed and not allowing fuel to fill the bowl. It didn't matter if the floats were up or down, the needle would stay closed the entire time.

The floats were adjusted too many times and sad looking too.

I'm going to pick up the trailer tomorrow. I decided to tow out.:D

I tried several different angles and couldn't get the carb to stall out. It actually runs better than when it was new now.

So my buddy was FOLLOWING me to a spot that I wanted to hit and managed to drive into my passenger side door and front 1/4 panel.

Here's the damage:

Now I can't get the frikin door open. I guess I'll work on that till the sun goes down.

The good news is the 1/2 doors, rock sliders, and chopped up fender held up, the impact resistant bondo worked good.

The bad news is his wifes tube bumper is pretty messed up.

I'd hate to see what would have happened if he had been trying to race you or something. The Jimmy would be totalled!

It jacked up a bumper and that's all the sheet metal damage you got?? Must be a great bumper...

We did a few quick races. :D

We were going about 35 mph when we bumped. He was following too close and jerking around back and forth playing around. I curved to the right to hit a trail and he was following me in my blind spot on the right side and there you have it.

I thought you left the old thread. I took some scenic pics just for you...

Yea it's one of those "Bought not built bumpers" ALL PRO brand.
The front driver corner bent in and dented the front fender. The tube rubs the tire on small bumps.

I'm still here. Thanks a lot for the scenic pics. I just got through watching coverage of the Dakar Rally from South America on T.V. and I've come to the conclusion that I must visit the desert one day. I told my wife about it and she just rolled her eyes and said "You hate hot weather. Why would you want to go to a desert?" I tried to explain to her that in dry climates such as deserts, your body is able to cool itself more efficiently through perspiration and evaporation, unlike where we live. At least that's what I assume. I could be wrong but it makes sense. Everyone I've talked to from my area that's ever been out west says that it feels a lot better out there.

Your homemade sliders combined with that good ol' American iron must have defeated that little Toyota with it's weak little bumper.

I lived down in GA for a while and I know it is way harder to deal with a humid swampy heat than the dry desert.
I don't go out there in the summer time. It's too hot. That's when I go to the mountains.:D

I have a few more pix, I'll post them soon.

I'm getting excited for the Tierra Del Sol desert safafi.:woot:

March 1,2,3...

I bet that's going to be fun. Where did you live in GA? I may know the place. I've lived here my whole life.

Savannah (downtown and on Whitmash Island), Atlanta (stone mountain and Forest Park), Darian (Swampland), Brunswick (coastal),Augusta, Athens...

I've stomped a lot of red clay in my day.

Whoa dude. You're just a good ol' boy sounds like. Please don't paint JIMMY orange and put a 01 on the doors and a redneck flag on the roof. That's so played out.

If you lived in Savannah and Darien, then you were close to some of my relatives. I've got some now living in Springfield in Effingham County and I've got a cousin who was an officer in the Navy who was stationed at King's Bay. Sand gnats galore.

I guess you've seen first hand that the coastal plain of GA and the interior of FL is the most miserable climate in the entire continental U.S. What made you decide to move out to the left coast?

I came to San Diego for a 2 week winter vacation. When I went home I had a new job, sold the old Scout and bought my first Blazer and drove across country.

I came for the weather and stayed for the lifestyle. :pimp:

Ill build dat bumper.

And make it beeftastic :D

In a drunkin midnight stooper at that.:haha:

Not much to update here just checking in on the old thread. I got a few minor issues with the JIMMY.

1- My rear window won't go down. I have all my gear back there including my spare tire. My truck wrenchin tools are kept in the pelican case back there too.
In order to fix the window I need to open the access panel on the tailgate.
Before I can get to that I need to unload all the gear from the back :doah:. You get the idea...

2- I got the old leaking yoke again :doah:. It's not the seal, it's the yoke. I'm gonna have to do a jungle fix on it cuz I'm broke.

I'm getting ready for the big desert safari. This is the 51st annual. I've been going every year since 06. Last year was a bust, everywhere I went everybody was breaking sh!t.
You never leave anyone behind so when they break down, your broke down too.

A few quick fixes and I'll be ready.

I'm gonna go help Supermotard750 with his new creation "THE TRIMMY"tomorrow. Last time we wrenched for 15 hrs!

:truck: + :k5: + :hack:+ :weld:+:grind:= :saweet: :saweet:

I love me a good wrenchin day.

Buddys that fix together sticks together.:waytogo:
