“Dylan’s” 89. Back at it!

89 Jimmy 6.0/4l80e/MAGNUM 205/d60/14bolt
That's an awesome score on the intake!

I know! Thanks! I've been scanning craiglist and Facebook for about a year for one with no luck. This popped up and the guy already had a buyer lined up, but he never heard back from him. So I jumped on it!

Planning on having team208 do the tune and harness, and maybe a cam ;)

The seller had something else I wanted in his shop...

What size tires you planning on running? Personally I'd hold off on the cam and do a lsa blower!

Id really like to just run a 38 but there aren't very many options out there. Everything comes in either a 37 or 40. Im not sure I want to cut my fenders as much as it would taken to run 40s. I pretty much just want to do a fang chop front and rear.

I think at the moment I'm set on running 38" SSRs, but that is subject to change rapidly and frequently. :rotfl:

Man a blower would be awesome! I might have to keep scanning craiglist haha!

Well in typical fashion, I was a little over zealous with my to do list last weekend. BUT! We did manage to get the new body mounts in. The fame and body have been reunited!

We started cutting off all the bracketry on the 14B. Good gosh :1zhelp: Those things are massive. We have a torch, but we didn't have any O2. So we decided to sawzall, grind, hammer and chisel the big b@st@rds off. :doah: They're off, let's just leave it at that.

Got the old springs and axle out, but of course I had to clean things up and touch up some paint before the new stuff could go in.

No worries though! I am on call this weekend but still managed to play a little. It's finally starting to look like progress has been made! :woot::woot::saweet::saweet:

Just call me Freiburger

I don't know why I bother to make a to do list, I never make it through everything. I wanted to have the rear axle painted by this weekend (nope, ran out paint), have the old suspension/axle out (nope, we'll get to that) and hopefully have the shackle flip, springs and 14b under the truck (not gonna happen). Unlike the Roadkill guys though it bothers me. Oh well, what can you do.

Today's defeat came at the hands of the rear suspension front leaf bolt. It absolutely refuses to budge! I tried a 4' cheater bar, an impact, a sawzall and basically did about 100 pull-ups hanging from my break bar. So, finally after a thorough upper body workout, and plenty of sweat and stench, I surrendered the day. I cracked a delicious yuengling and flipped a farwell, majestic middle finger bird.

Soon, bolt. Soon. Next time I'm bringing fire!

Now I am extremely glad I decided to ditch the rubber bushing in the new Tuff country springs I have. They're complete garbage. Sure wish the new ones would show up  No matter, I managed to pound out the "old" bushings today. This was kind of funny. I watched videos of people torching them, drilling them, one poor fella spent a whole half an hour pounding 1 bushing out. After trying the drilling method for about 30 mins I realized I was being an idiot. I went and found the perfect sized impact socket (1 1/16") and pounded away. Had all four out in about 2 minutes. :saweet:

So Monday Pops is coming to help and he's bringing :weld: Paint won't show up until Wednesday, :sign19: Guess I'll chip away until I have all my junk.

Here is today's culprit :flipoff5:

Also, just placed an order with ORD for brake lines and some other small things. They should just offer the whole catalog in a payment plan package. I'll have it all before long.

Plan on ordering new stainless lines from inlinetube also. Waiting till monday when I can speak with tech support. I sure wish they would list exactly what pieces come in their kits.

In terms of tire sizes, some of them say 37s, some of them are actually 37.

Point being, 38s might be 35s

And 40s might be 38s?? :thinking::thinking::D:D

As far as tires, I think I want to stick with a radial. I've considered almost every tire out there. I really like the looks of the Gladiator X-Comp MT, but I haven't seen many reviews on them, especially offroad durability. And the same dilemma 37 or 40s no in between.

After a recent thread I'm leaning towards backing down to a 37. I'm planning on selling off the 4l80e and getting a 4l60/65. Just an easier swap all around. So with that and my 4:56 I'll be turning 2050'ish rpm @ 70mph with 37s.

Should work good as long as your not concerned about reliability of the 4L60

Yeah I know they're not near as strong as the 80. However this will be a built 4l60. Hopefully as long as I can keep it cool it should last.

Also, realistically I bet this rig will only see a few wheeling trips a year, and the rest will be on the street.

Going through it properly will resolve most concerns

That bolt fought me too. Torched the hanger off with my plasma then could get good angles with the plasma torch to cut the bolt flush.

I have the Gladiators on my truck. Good all around tire, surprisingly quiet on the road, and I am happy with them off road. Had to air them down a few times to get some quat out of them, but I am happy with them.

What size are you running? And do you happen to know what they measured mounted? Looks like the gladiators run about 0.5" smaller than advertised.

Found some interesting data in this thread...

https://wayalife.com/showthread.php/35075-The-Ultimate-TRUE-TIRE-SIZE-Database/page6

Looks to be that most 37s are actually measuring 35 or less, and 40s measuring just over 37 :eek1: That's a pretty significant difference. I might post this up in the garage to see if anyone has anything to add to it.
Sorry to burst your bubble.

Imagine my surprise when I went from Goodyear 35s to Nitto 37s, but gained 4" in tire height

Um, no fitty so well

:haha::haha::haha:

Well I knew that the advertised size was never true and then mounting, psi, wheel size all played a part in the true size, but I didn't expect this kind of difference. Looks like if I want to run a true 37 then I better order a 40. I'd probably end up with a tire that actually runs true and have the same "no fitty so well" problem. :doah: Haha
