03 gmc duramax with 350k (BBT) transmission fun

Alright, after seeing some pics of it, and knowing you picked it up for $6k, that's a pretty good deal (that's way lower than NADA or KBB was showing for one which is what people really think their trucks are worth...which they aren't). Even if you have to do injectors and a couple other things, then you might be $10k into a rig that should probably go for another 100K miles...not bad

P.S. That's my favorite year front end in the GMC!

Wow.

Wow again. Here, that truck would be listed for $14,000 and sell that night.

Looks good to me. I figure if they can ask (and get) 8-10+++K for a 12 valve Cummins that looks and runs like it was flipped over and burned, then 6 k for that aint bad. Buffing wheel and a Saturday will take away a lot of hate in the paint.

Funny thing is around here, It's the complete opposite. Just from a quick bit of craigslist research, I found a 95 3/4 ton 4x4 reg. cab long bed 12 valve 5 Speed Cummins, with 219,000 miles. Says it has a new steering box and transfer case, decent paint, decent interior, and he's asking $5500, and the ad is 3 weeks old.

By comparison, I found an 03 2500HD CCSB Chevy with a Duramax and an Allison with 385,000 miles. Has fuel in the oil, and it won't shift into overdrive. The leather interior is almost ruined and it needs tires. He was asking $11,500, and the ad says "Sold"

well, there are always the ads where the seller is obviously dreaming. I ran across several trucks that were listed as having engine and/or transmission problems and wanting $10k plus.

So, the front door windows are slow as hell, guess I need to go find those door motor threads that I used to ignore lol

Replacing the window motors are crazy easy on these trucks. Buy a AC Delco unit on Amazon to get a better price than any parts store.

cool, thanks guys. slow windows are one of those things that are not a big deal, but are annoying every time you use them. I'll check it out on amazon.

That's nuts. I don't understand throwing large numbers of dollars toward a truck with that many problems.

Its nuts, I've got a friend who would give his left nut for a Duramax, He's got a budget of $8K, and he hasn't a decent one in the two years he's been looking.

The ones he does look at have all been absolutely trashed, TONS of miles, wrecked, burned, blown up, etc.

Full assembly so you only have to do it once.

Full assembly is easier. I did just the motors in my wife's 01 burban (essentially the same door/window motor) and I can tell it was a little more of a pain doing just the motor instead of the whole assembly. Still not as bad as the 90's OBS years. My truck is that and replacing anything inside the door panel sucks balls

Got another issue with it. The steering is annoyingly tough at low speeds. I'm assuming I need a new power steering pump, but I also think the steering column could use a rebuild. Nothing huge, just annoying. Anybody rebuild a column on this style of truck? I've never rebuilt any newer than about '85.

Anything I should be worried about? It does have an air bag, so thats something new to deal with.

Could be pump or box, I've never rebuild one of those columns, clunky feeling when turning is typically the intermediate steering shaft. Growling odd noise is typically the steering box. Both are common.

While you shouldn't have to muscle it, if the brakes are depressed and you're turning in a tight parking lot it can be a little firm, try easing off the brake a little free up some pressure From the hydroboost

Make sure the battery's are disconnected, anything airbag related will be yellow connectors On the sides of the steering wheel center, there will be a smal 3/16 hole. Use a long pick or screw driver in the hole and you'll be depressing a lever, the air bag will pull out slightly, do the other side and unplug
