14ff Hub Failure

I have a bare housing with two good hubs sitting on my garage floor. It's not looking like I will put it to use anytime soon. But it would be cheaper to buy a complete axle locally than ship a housing.

I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!

atleast swapping gears in a 14ff is like coloring inside the lines on a coloring book .

there stupid easy to do .

That sucks man. And now I have one more thing to worry about spontaneously failing!

from rust a lot . as I am in the rust belt .

otherwise from people trying to reuse them yes.

or not getting them tight . . . good-n-tight

and I don't like lift kit packaged ubolts . there cheep flimsy stuff. get good local bent up ones or stuff like ruff stuff / ord and others sells . l&h rod is 1 of the top ubolt rod makers out there .

what gear ratio are you running? I see 14 bolts all the time at PnP, $250 and your back on the road.

I need a 3/4 ton 14FF, 4.10's, with a gov lock preferably.

And, would like one with the newer backing plates to keep my ebrake as is. Although, i'm sure i could swap backing plates off my dead one.

Why do you need 4.10 w/ gov-lock? Can't you simply grab the gears from your existing housing? As said before, it's really easy to set up 14bff gears. And that way you don't have to care what you find... :dunno:

4.10's are so common, why not look for them and save time.

I haven't looked into what it will take to swap the gears. But, if i went that route, i'd probably have it done at this stage in this move. Which is more $$$.

remove 6 bolts and slide out pinion support and save shim .

pull cover undo adjusters that are threaded .

drop out chunk .

reverse for install in to other housing and check backlash .

there stupid easy . :D

Put a deposit down on a good takeout axle at Pacific Fab.

Picking it up monday.

Ubolts are already here. Hoping to have it back up and running the next day.

Now, to convince an AAA tow truck driver to help me move it into the driveway with only 3 wheels.

Since you aren't reusing it can you not just jack up the rear end and shove the axle in far enough to move the truck?

Also, I thought 14bff axles couldn't walk out like that?? Or is that they can't walk out like that if the axle shaft breaks?

good tow truck guy get it almost anywere you want .

and full float can walk out if the hub/bearing or spindle fail and let the whole assemble slide off like his did.

and as said jack it up / slide it in / 4x4 and drive it to were you need it .
