17 Ram 3500 DD minor upgrades

I put the flip out towing mirrors on my 1500 for when I tow my little toy hauler. But I also use them w/ my flat bed. Yes they look silly... but dont care.. lol I don't leave them up when I'm not towing for sure.

Bring this thread out of the museum.

The truck would not start this morning. I have had a couple of non start mornings. No gauges on. But always started after a couple of attempts. Nothing consistent.

"Incorrect key fob" comes up when I turned the fob for a few of them. So I kept both of them with me. Locks work correctly every time. Yesterday I pushed up on the shift handle and it fired up. I assumed it was not quite in park.

"Key in ignition" shows, but no door chime this morning. Then "incorrect key fob". The gauges would not come on. Pushed up on the handle with nothing changing. Then pulled down and I realized it came out of park with the key off and my foot not on the brake peddle. Never tried that before, so I am not sure if that is new. Locked and unlock a few times, then it started. Started at all 5 stops this morning.

@fastazz81 ?????????

Dodge had ignition switch problems at one point. My FIL and BIL both had issues on their '12-'13 trucks.
They also do weird things with battery problems. Our company dodges of a certain year(?) would not know they had been jump started until you disconnected and reconnected the negative battery cable.

If the truck has a TIPM totally integrated power module, this controls the key fob and other electronic add ons. They get buggy. Disconnect it from the loom let it discharge any capacitors, them reinstall.
Shouldnt need to be reprogrammed.

Wades truck is to new to have a tipm , his has a normal fuse panel and a separate body control module, that being said his generation of truck is known to have kin “aka” ignition switch issues rfh issues due to water intrusion as it sits on rear cab wall under window and third brake light that are known to leak and wiring issues between the two , the easiest way to check is with a scan tool to see if kin and rfh are on the buss and communication is present to determine a direction to go in, does it happen more after it has rained or you washed the truck?
You cold pull rfh hub off of the rear of cab and open it up to look for signs of water damage.
If it is either of those parts requires scan tool and key code to program.
If you have any other questions feel free to give me a call.

What’s RFH? KIN? Sorry if I missed it.

Edit: found on google
Radio frequency hub
Keyless ignition module

New trucks sound complicated haha

Battery was 11.8 volts after unlocking and the headlight and running lights on. Turned them off, 12.0 volts. So it may be on its last leg.

The truck fired up first turn this morning. I knew it would, because the gauges came to life when I turn it to ignition.

I'm pretty ignorant on these. Is that keyfob active or passive? Are there batts that can go bad in the keyfob to cause that?
