1964 Nova Wagon “Plank”

Nova
245/50 looks amazing in the back but it rubs the fender a little without driving. Tucked up real nice. Even the tire guys were bummed the 225 didn’t fit up front and 245 in back.
I wish all 4 were 245 but not right now.

Love it!

I’ll have to go back and check old posts for temperatures but right now I’m seeing 160 on the intake and 130 at the carb base. If I remember it was 180-220 something like that before.

Also, how does a company NOT make oil walls or machines gasket surface on their heads????? Like “good luck gaskets”…

Anyway, rockers and springs look good. Though I’m not sure how an engine stops with ZERO valves open.

The lifters bleed down. So on the exhaust valve, why not remove the whole thing, thread the holes and plug them ? less restriction is more better.
Yup most inline 6's of the era have leaky valve covers.

The butterfly/valve has a nice sweep to it, figured it could stay. I also didn’t feel like cutting it out. I welded the counter weight “open”. This engine is beyond tired, evenly worn but tired. I don’t see anything helping at this point. Haha

I don’t know what else I did but this car is a dog now. It was slow before but fun. Now it falls flat if you push too fast on the throttle and accelerates like an old diesel.

Manifold vacuum to dizzy. 8* idle @650 no vacuum. With vacuum its around 30! This is a mark I put on the pulley, maybe the mark is off a couple degrees. Vacuum gauge at idle is a steady 18. It idles and cruises so nice, highway is ok too. If you roll the throttle quickly, it accelerates faster as you lift. :(

If the rings are worn and compression is low but even, try and get some hotter spark plugs.
Mine ran like a raped ape when I did that.

I don’t know why but she pisses out of the tailpipe every time she starts. Maybe not so much after a drive but I can’t see this as just condensation. It’s got brand new exhaust and obviously the header was just cleaned up. It uses zero coolant also. I guess I need to set something on the floor and smell it after. Is this gas? Just spraying out? I gotta figure out how to tone this choke down. It’s not needed here.

I have tried playing with the choke blade several times but haven’t found a happy place that doesn’t cause heavy smoke on start up. It is “cold” here right now though. Might open the blade up in the spring.

Also, while it’s loaded and saggy, I can show you the tuck on the wheels. To say they “fit like yoga pants on an Instagram model” is an understatement. LOL When it’s tucked like this, I get the tiniest rub during articulation and turning right. :dunno:

Unfinished until later. I brought the frame down once already and it’s still high, so it needs one more “version”. No time, I’ll finish and clean it up later. I’m also trying to use the factory bolt holes until I’m damn sure what I want. Don’t need extra holes in the floor. The seats are from a Jetta, $200 for the pair. Sold the bench for $230.

It’s night and day. So much better to drive already. Going to be even better with the seat lowered and electrics connected. Yes, if I didn’t drive this everywhere, the bench is more period correct. But I drive it…a lot and want to enjoy it. Second seat, center console, 3 point seatbelts, and rear split folding bench from a Golf or GLE. Tits hahaha

That 3 point will help keep the steering column from impaling you, God forbid, a head on

Pulled center console from Bender. Goal is something from dash to back of the seats and will house the HVAC ducting for the back seats. For now, it gets the Tuffy console I bought from Rob. Storage and CUP HOLDERS!!! It and the passenger seat aren’t bolted in yet. :doah: I’m estimating 4,000 miles since I bought it. The front end is squeaking badly and I can feel it seizing up. It will get some love soon.
