1966 Chevy C20

Glad to see you didn't go with the Pertronix. I had that on my 52 dodge. Failed in just 2 years. I'm back to the points & condenser for now. Once I convert to 12v I want to put an HEI distributor in mine.

Truck is looking great!!

Honestly, I just really like have the HEI type distributor cap. That was just about my biggest deciding factor.

Just been driving this thing just about every weekend. It's running great and it's fun to drive.

We have been wanting to get the 66 out of the elements but we have a very small garage. Our house was built in '04, 1904 that is. I'm pretty sure the garage must have been built in the Model T days because newer vehicles barely fit. We bought a 10'x12' shed and moved most everything out of the garage into it. Sunday we were able to get the 66 in the garage. It barely fits.

Here's the empty garage. It was dark by the time we finished.

Interesting how they poured the floor. And the front 3' of the garage must have been added later based on the floor you can see where the old footer went across.

I can barely get around the driver side back to close the doors and then around the front and out of the garage. Good thing we don't plan on doing a show-car paint job. Regardless, happy to have the truck inside. Honestly it's the UV I worry about more than the rain/snow. Although I'm glad hail won't be a concern either. Although I feel like these old vehicles don't take a beating like the new stuff does.

Always neat working with the wood in the garage and house because it's true 2"x4" rough lumber. Not any of that smooth, reduced size stuff.

Haven't done anything with the 66 recently, just been driving it. Which is what I really like about it. I can just jump in and it's ready to go. Only complaint I have is the super low axle gears.

Maybe if I could fit 37s it would be enough. :p: On the drive in this morning I kept trying to grab another gear. If I want, I could be in 4th by 35mph. Heck, you can get it to start from a stop in 3rd gear.

You need a pissed off small block in there so you have an excuse to rip gears

More horses than my old TBI350. 220/320

I remember my dad used to tell stories about his 67 El Camino he and a buddy drag raced with in Yuma. It had the popular 327/350 engine. They would put a triple deuce setup on it for racing and put the 4bbl back on for regular duty.

That's part of the reason I like keeping the 327 in it.

You got a Duntov 30-30 in that puppy?
I doubt it. The guy I bought it from did rebuild the engine but he seems to be the type that just kept things like it came from the factory.

I need an alternator upgrade. I don't drive the 66 at night mostly because the headlights are the greatest; plan to upgrade those in the future. Anyway I noticed the headlights dimmed every time I stopped at a light. That's when I noticed the ammeter was showing discharge instead of charge when idling at a red light. This doesn't happen during the day.

I was trying to figure out how this could have become a problem. I think it's because I added the higher power ignition. It adds enough load the alternator can't keep up with the headlights on.

It has been changed from a generator to an alternator. I need to figure out what kind of alternator it is.

Sweet truck man! I was looking for the exact thing last year but they were all roached up here in the northeast
