1968 C10 DD, project "New Tricks"

Well good to know all that about the CPP stuff. I wonder why its so scary and no RTC. That is interesting.
I don't know man, working on it though. I got some nice push on style door weather strip, should be here in couple weeks. That should make the ride nicer. Right now, the brakes and steering are the only things driving me crazy. LOL kind of important things

As for the CPP stuff, the chassis parts are nice and all worked out. It did rub me the wrong way with their hardware though. Don't supply 3/8" bolts when 7/16" bolts would fit with a quick pass of the drill. Also, this is chassis components dammit, don't give me lock washers and regular nuts. I spent probably $200 bucks or so upgrading to 7/16" grade 8 with stover nuts. Gunna do it?.... do it right. Their slow to ship, not the clearest when describing their parts, and tend to lie about whether something is in stock or not. Don't send me the wrong color calipers TWICE, or sell me an incomplete hitch kit cause the backing plates are on backorder.

I will tell you that I have seen people who would have been mad if they had to drill out the holes even that small amount to install parts.
I would rather do as you did, but others?

And I bet that they figured that if so much of the factory stuff was standard nuts, why should they upgrade.

You have to remember sometimes that we see things differently. ...
But not necessarily incorrectly!

Growing pains man growing pains. It's an uphill battle to make something like this exactly what is wanted. Unless you have a 100k kicking around.

You'll get it all figured out. I for one love your truck

Growing pains is a bastard, ask me how I know. :haha:

You will get it eventually, just work on it one thing at a time, start with your most hated task and work down.

Still haven't addressed the brakes yet but tomorrow I'll be driving it down to CPP. The recent dyno tune feels great but they guy put WAY too aggressive shift timing in. It is barely streetable with the shift points so high, so I'm going back up to see about taming it. I'd say, if the shift points from factory were at a level 1, and what it's at currently is level 10, I'm going to ask him for a level 2. LOL, it's that aggressive, plus it likes to downshift with very little throttle input.

Also had some vibration and noise on deceleration. Had the gears checked out and found the crush washer not completely crushed on the pinion, so you could move it some. Tightened it up and it's quiet.

Also, just going to leave this here.
I got pissed at an asshole today on the freeway. Had to slam on the brakes. Rolled past him at ~5mph and jumped on it to get around. Damn truck lit up the tires. :eek1::eek::burnout:

Quick video of the brake noise. Doing a quick U-turn intensifies the sound and vibration. I've already spoke with someone at CPP and did a short ride along in the parking lot (he's not allowed, I guess, to even do that) The funky "no RTC" was apparent but the brakes were quiet. Took the video during the drive home and emailed the guy.

Moving some stuff from my late uncles appartment. Wish it was under different curcumstanses but the truck handled the weight easy.

that has to be the flattest torque curve in the history of curves..and torques.. looks good.

That's spoken like a true car guy there.

But honestly I thought I was the only one that liked that...

Update. Current odometer 920 miles.

1080 lbs of roofing leveler. Little too much but handled it ok. Maybe 1" away from the cut frame's bumpstops. Don't think I'll do that again.

Second, took a couple quads in for service. Wasn't bad at all but I'm getting the feeling airbags are in my future.

Stole my Dad's dog for the trip to the dealership. You can see my awesome stereo set up too :D

Truck has more brake dust on the rims than I've ever seen driving my other trucks. Supposedly semi-metalic :/ I also don't like how much pressure it takes to hold the truck from rolling. You have to focus on it. Foreshadowing...

Some time before the quad picture I had another Uncle pass away. This time on my Father's side. I was much closer to him than my other Uncle that passed away merely 2 weeks ago. I got a call from my Cousin (son) just a few hours after my Uncle's passing. I was surprised to see it on the caller ID. Well, I was waiting for a red light behind a semi truck. When I reached for the phone, I must have released the brake a little and rolled into the back of the trailer. :( This month has been hard needless to say. I didn't even answer the call. 2 days later, while talking to him, he said he never called me or anyone that day. This was his house number, not a butt dialed cell. Weird right?

There is the obvious dent and a couple not so obvious bends. The hood no longer sits flat :( Looking for another hood. The top edge of the grill also has a dent in it, not sure if I'll replace it or just have it fixed.

The brake and wheel bearing noise have gotten worse. My steering is still terrible and needs to be fixed for me to be more confident. With my S10 back in DD service, it's time to tear things apart.

How do you like this?
CPP spindle
CPP bracket
CPP caliper bracket
CPP caliper

equals

interference :angry1: on both sides! Not sure what this would do, neither parts are moving, but I'll be grinding down the caliper bracket some to get the clearance it should have. I'm sure that will bode well with the powdercoat
