1968 C10 DD, project "New Tricks"

Yeah I agree with beags on regretting getting rid of it in the future. I always have. I know houses are crazy expensive in CA(my brother lives out there) but it really won't bring in that much when you compare it to down payments and such. I've had like 5 houses and all were financed 100%, yeah a down payment gets your payment down a little and saves a lot in the long run but it has just never worked out that way for us and we make it work.

That's kinda my point as well. If you sell your truck, what are you going to ask? 12-20k is the range I would think you would ask. That's pretty much nothing when buying a house.

I contemplated selling my 76 when we bought our house for exactly the same reasons. but I didn't and I'm glad that I didn't.

Well, Saturday I've got someone coming down from Oakland area to look at the truck. He seems enthusiastic but I know nothing is for sure. I've found a couple nice C10s for around my price on CList lately, so he could easily jump on one of those too. One of which is in the bay area, so a lot closer to him.

I'm not budging from $20k. Of course it's listed for a smidge more but I want 20. The wife would rather see me get 20 also, and understands how hard it is to let it go. There is about 29k into it, with only my labor...like many of you :waytogo: I've come to terms with it. I'll build something else down the road and it will be better than this truck. Always learning. The electrical alone on this truck is so much cleaner than the Blazer (my first project). I've actually gone back and fixed a lot of the Blazer wiring since working on the C10.

I really like driving this truck, the feeling is better than driving my '17 convertible mustang. The truck is so very much ME, all of it. Between the Blazer and C10, I've got cool covered. But, like I said, I can do better later. The truck is not without it's faults and some of what I want to change will cost too much to make the changes. The parts I want to replace, well, I'll never get good money from them. And the streets around here are so bad, it's tough to enjoy the truck unless I'm on the highway. If I made another one, I'd start with the long bed again, but probably do a full aftermarket short bed chassis on airbags. I get my R&P steering, stiffer chassis, and smoother ride with higher payload. I'd also like to add hydro boost, cause the pedal pressure feels like it's a manual set up, but the brakes feel pretty good.

If I wasn't house searching, I'd probably sell the truck and dump the funds into what I just mentioned. But that would be a slow build and without a proper work area, it's just not feasible. Working in dirt and weeds sucks.

I've been enjoying the truck this last week. I've got the original blue glovebox door on, so the inside all matches. I've got the dashpad in place, not bolted down though. And I've got all the AC stuff hooked up. Feels good in there when it's 95* outside. I've also got the transmission temps under control with a new cooler mounted up front. Big sucker, handles the trans easily. The only problem with the truck now it one side has camber issues. I need thinner washers, which come with the truck and I can't seem to buy new. So it has this terrible humm sound driving down the road, like I'm running old mud terrain tires or something. I don't know if the sound and camber are related, I just know they are both a problem.

Sold it yesterday, Saturday September 22nd, 2018.
Gave the guy all my receipts and spare parts for the truck. Got $19k for it all. Wasn’t easy but it helps my current goals of a house. Later I will be on the lookout for a full vert Blazer, 2wd. Might just get 4x4 since those tend to be cheaper and inquire about an aftermarket boxed frame.

Way way way WAY down the road.

Well, 3 years and loosing about $12k invested.
The guys name is Mike and managed to find this thread about the truck. I hope he finds the time to sign up and start a new thread documenting his adventures.

Hope the PO bashing is at a minimum. LOL

I love PO bashing.

Sucks that in CA you have to give up your dreams in order to afford to buy a home.
You think it’s different here?

B3 sorry about the truck man, but I understand where you are going. Hopefully we see ya at BB and you dont fade onto the darkness

I have already reserved a cabin for the time slot. I hope to make it and I hope for nice weather so the wife comes out. Tall order, but dammit I can be hopeful.

Well, and I guess if it's for a "dream" house, then it's understandable too.

You think it’s different here?

Unfortunately it's the second main reason I left CO.
Housing market and my trade was half the national average for pay.
Now I make 2 -2 1/2s the pay and pay half as much to live.

And still can't get my shit finished. :doah:

Was wondering what the 1/8 mile time was so came back down memory lane. Damn I did a good job on it. Today though, probably would have left it a long bed and made it a real nice cruiser. (Don’t get me wrong, that truck was a f***ing slot car in the canyon after I was done)

Don’t miss it but I do miss the project itself and the feeling of driving it. Gotta put the knowledge into something else. I’ll have to reach out to Mike, see if he still owns it. Wish he had taken up where I left off. Bye NewTricks
